I believe so. Didn’t really pay attention when I was under there to be 100% positive.

According to what I just read they do have a dropout and the automatic ones are 3.31 gears….

Doesn’t @lostn51 have piles of shoebox stuff? I wonder if he has one to sell you??

I think the 44 series came along with the Yblock years. Bird’s, trucks, wagons, police option. Couple different models. Axle and bearing differences. Lincoln’s (maybe Merc’s?) used a bigger Dana. Then came the 9” in 57

Nope; station wagons and (I think) cop cars only through '56. I have had a stock '51 with no overdrive and 3.55 gears; I don't think I'd go any higher (lower numerically). I could put up with a little Sturm und Drang on the highway to have better gears in town. Overdrives (either stock or a T5) make these entirely different cars. I had one in my high school '51 and was in the process of putting one in my current car (until old age reared it's ugly head). OD is a great addition.

I’ll have to do some digging but I do have several gear sets for them.:D

But the non overdrive gear ratio is 3:55 and the overdrive is a 4:11.

I read that automatics used 3.31 but 3.55 to 3.31 isn’t much difference. Probably not worth the effort

Yea, not hardly worth the effort for that little of a change. It does fine on the highway now.

Well, I ether need to seal up the vacuum wipers or use rainx…. The wipers try to work, but I mainly just hear a big vacuum leak.

Also, I just looked and have put 75 miles on the car so far. Going to be a great driver. :D

You can see in the above pic that I also need the trim around the rear window. It is a new seal that uses the trim, but the car didn’t come with the trim. I’ll see if I can come across some locally. Seems like shipping that trim would be risky.

Is it a single groove or a double groove? I should have both here.

Best I can tell, looks like it is a double groove? There appears to be one groove under the flap towards the outside and one near the glass. Kinda hard to tell with it installed.

Looks like double groove to me. How supple is the rubber?

It is pretty much new from what I can tell. Had to look up supple to be honest, but I would say it is still pretty supple or flexible. :D

Cool beans, you should be able to get one in without tearing up the rubber. I’ll get it there in a few and see if I have what you need.

Found one!!! I still need to find the clip that joins it together but it’s dent free and needs a good polishing. Now I gots to figure out how to pack it up that the shipping won’t be through the roof and it can be tossed off of a building and run over and survive. The last picture shows a little hicky in the trim but it is covered by the clip whenever I find it. image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

I put a 3.22 chuck from a '56 automatic car in my '51 - used the 28 spline '56 axles too - gave it more legs on the highway (just did 500 miles) but the non of 3.70 chuck I took out was a little more fun around town....I really wouldn't want to do more than 70mph in one of these with stock suspension and brakes anyway.....the 3.22s gave me about another 10mph over the 3.70s at the same rpm

Those caps look great Jeff. I normally like my shoeboxes level, but yours dragging tail looks kinda cool actually! I dig it.

If you don't wanna mess with the vaccum lines there's an electric motor wiper kit you can get. That's what's in mine.... Central sells um.

More driving and pics…because it’s still new and exciting. Sure gets attention using it as a car going to grocery store, nursing home where my FIL is, etc…as was intended.
