In all honesty, how bad is your car out of the lights? I mean, could a Nun on roller skates beat it up to about 25 or so? I just put the exact same combination in my girlfriends wagon, and not only do HATE auto trans cars, living where I do I'm not a huge fan of non overdrive transmisions, either. Guess I'm just a bit worried at this point.
I did comprimise and do it because she refuses to learn to drive a stick, and I don't think I have the energy to teach her and decipher the yelling in Chinese that would come my way anyway!

What rear end did you use to come up with a 2.91 ratio?

    Back to the T5.........

Maybe another question for NeedLouvers -

The trans adapters are actually readily available and quite cheap.

So what's the solution for the clutch? I should be able to use some variant of the original clutch and not have to switch over to hydraulic, correct? So which clutch do I need?

My T5 also has an electronic speedo. A $99 GPS could be the cheapest solution for that.

There was a disc used in the Mustangs and Rangers that has the right diameter and spline that works with the T-5. If you have a 9" clutch, there is an Alfa Romeo clutch conversion that gets you much more clamping force and a diaphram pressure plate for very little machine work. Pretty sure the info on that is on rickwrench.com.

Ya, I never bother with speedos in my cars. everything I own has a couple different sets of tires and wheels to switch around, so accuracy is Meh at best. I have always used a tach and tehn just ran the calculations for improtant speeds. It's easy after you do it for a bit, and tons more accurate.

Just so i don't get mistaken for a complete genius, You have to know about fordsix.com. I have had my '62 62c falcon coupe for thirty years as of April of this year. But i have to admit it has been sitting for allot of those now. When my girlfriend dragged home our Ranchero and wagon about a year and a half ago, I had to relearn allot of what I knew, plus even more pertaining to O/D transmissions and newer ways of doing clutches and such. I have spent many a long evening on that sight just soaking in stuff and relearning things that I hadn't used for years. It's about the best resource out there for Falcon and six cylinder types these days.

I am currently putting a T5 behind a 170 in my 64 fairlane, and I used the same clutch and pressure plate. My T5 had a 10 spline input shaft, and my original clutch was 10 spline as well. I did have to get a new throwout bearing, because the T5 required a larger one than the original 3 spd.
I also had to find a new pilot bearing, although my 3 spd was the funky dagenham one.
Louvers is right, Fords vary from one to the next, for example my same 170 3 spd setup used an 8" clutch.
    Good luck.
