Projects Bought a Mercury on purpose

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by anthony myrick, Feb 4, 2023.

  1. Leaning towards Lincoln push buttons. Front only.
I need the lock mechanism but wondering if I can camo that in the drivers door side trim.
Probably gonna shave the bezels some more
And make the call on the bottom radius.

that’s a killer idea for a hidden door button.

Drivers side, button to open fuel door. Passenger side, button to open trunk.

  4. This popped up on a random taillight search. No info.
    Probably a European car.

I like the shape of the original lights.
I don’t like the bulkiness of the bezel.
I’m going to trim it down probably at least another 1/8.
I like this thinner style bezel.

Both ways look good, but I'm thinking that once you pull the bumper up closer to the body, The flat surface of the bumper will compliment the flat surface of the light.

  6. Used 3/8 tape and trimmed down the bezel some more.
Will probably stop here and build the bucket

For some strange reason, I have always wanted to use Harley tombstone taillights on a '49-51 Mercury.

  9. We might just trim the thickness and length and look at em

    I kinda dig em
    Just too thick

  10. If I were doing that I would terminate the Skirt right at the vertical seam where the lower quarter ends and the taillight extension come together. Then the corner radi needs to match the factory radi, not so squared off as the corner is now. You won't know if it's going to work with the rest of the package until it's done and too late to go back on the skirts.

Sell those cruiser skirts and make some flush mount skirts. Possibly use a lower section of a Merc. door as contours should be close.

  12. Too late
    We whacked em

I’m not a big flush mount fan.

  13. It’s just metal
    It’s never too late
    I can’t weld glass though

  14. Gonna thin em down a little more and tac the end on to flow with the stainless

  15. I dig em

    it’s just skirts.
You can change em like shoes

  17. More fat removed
    IMG_7583.jpeg
shrunk top and bottom edges to flow better
    We ain’t welding em in
Just wanted something different. I’ll still paint the stock ones. Maybe change em out often.
theses skirts were $100. The lip that held the seal was bad. Nothing lost.

the upper portion of the top at the rear will get a slight radius.
The foward, lower section can be shaped to flow with the door jamb. Just like the originals.

  18. Messed with em a little more. No students today, so I made some notes for them to take care of.
Need to shrink the top edge a little more to flow with the body. Split the end we cut off and section it to fit the rear.
Thin down a little more fat to fit the contour of the front quarter panel.
We bowed the bottom edge to flow with the body contour. That got the skirt off the rear tire. Flows much better
    IMG_7613.jpeg IMG_7611.jpeg
they ugly but I’m liking it.

  19. Nice progress. The leading edge of the skirt is definitely fighting with the rear door line.

  20. We might change that
Well get the rear done then check out the front

  25. Looks great! Just make sure when it’s finished, you don’t park on the street in front of the TV shop and find Curt Henderson sitting on the front fender.

  26. It’s already scratched.
At my speed, the initiation into our club would probably be staying up past 10pm
