several years ago, an older hot rod guy gave me a beater 51 merc. Rotted with the rear axle ripped out like in American Graffiti. Had the correct core clutch parts. Amd a std merc flatty
    thanks Ralph.
    Miss that guy.

  3. A got a few IMG_7134.jpeg
Came in handy. For the SBC to flathead I had an adapter I bought for $50 over 10 years ago for the heck of it.
Had the correct SBC FW and correct clutch pieces in my junk yard plus a few 3 bolt starters.
Found a nos pilot bushing adapter for $15.
so when I get a new TO bearing I’ll still be under $200 for the swap.
    Not bad

    Anthony, enjoying your teacher/student Merc coverage. Was viewing the parts ad and this was posted;
You have insufficient privileges to reply here. Has someone seen my checkbook balance ?
    Thanks, Dyno Dave

The big pattern ford wheel have been blasted and painted. So that saves a little work.
The h78 is a tad taller but these are fine for now.
Plus I dont need the factory merc wheels that I’ll probably sell now.

I need to unstack the stuff that is sitting on and around my Merc. That also adds inspiration.

It looks good Anthony. Your students have done a great job so far.

  12. Cleaning up the firewall. All the heat and ventilation pieces will probably be painted gloss black. Not sure on the firewall color. Leaning towards semi-gloss black. Not totally against the dark grey metallic that’s on the outside of the car.
    IMG_8136.jpeg IMG_8137.jpeg
the trans adapter hit the firewall where the top center bolt is. My block doesn’t have that hole
So we hammered a small recess for that to clear. Got it little more uniform than in the pic. Will mimic that on the trans cover Didn’t need much.
Frame and suspension will be flat black.

    Yep. We use filler.
    IMG_9538.jpeg

  20. Got some primer on it
    IMG_9547.jpeg
we’ll work the upper area of the pocket some more. But overall, it’s gonna work

  21. Primer is PPG 2050. Has a lot of texture.
    Shot thru a 2.0 tip.
2050 is an epoxy filler primer.

Looking good. Must be some thick stuff lumpy like that even through a 2.0 tip.

  23. It’s thick. The catalyst looks like molasses.
It’s a DTM epoxy filler. Ok to use under body filler.
Doesn’t build up as much as a polyester but I like it a lot better than urethane.
