Bones, where in the hell do you find someone to develop and print that old Kodak Brownie box camera film these days, huh? ;)

My problem is usually I don't think of taking a picture until I have it apart

  4. Front and rear pic.

    both the left side.
Documenting a build, reference pics. looking up info and parts.
    These phones are cool.

Hold down springs we’re missing on one of the rear shoes.
Plan to clean up backing plates and paint em. Assemble them off the car.
Just picked up the front springs. Hope to have brakes on as soon as parts come in.
The front seal 8m-1109 doesn’t seem to have any other application except Mercury/Lincoln.
    National number is 6429
    Shoebox central is sending some.
    Spring kits coming from Kanter.
    The rest was sourced locally.

  7. It’s better. Or a good starting point.
I can live with that while I cruise and modify

  8. 2 inch block.
    I’ll let it settle some.
A spring spacer and 3 inch blocks might be tried eventually.

  9. I think it'll need the 3" block because KUSTOM. Got skirts?

The front will likely settle some over time. I think mine likely did about an inch or so with Moog Aerostar springs. And, I am also considering 3" blocks to replace my current 2" but only because I don't have to haul four kids in the back anymore since they are driving...

And, seems like you had one good skirt?

  11. Got one skirt. Passenger side.
Just DMd a HAMBer that has a drivers skirt in the classifieds

I love this thing. In the 60s a buddy had a 51 4 door with O/D trans, mild cam & headers. In 1st it could keep up with or beat some 265 & 283 chevs. I always wanted one just like the old "Mad Bat". For what it was, it was bad & cool. You might just like the flatty. GR8 project!

As bad as some of the roads are in Walker County, 2" is probably as low as I'd go. Any lower and you might be bulldozing new holes!:D:D:D

  14. That Mercury looks bigger since you lowered it. It is looking great. Taking pictures is a great idea, when we disassemble something like a cylinder head at work, with all of the fittings and small parts, we take pictures and send them to each other if someone else has to reassemble it.

  15. My bus is lower in front. It’s scrapes occasionally.
Ya just have to learn to drive low

Sits nice. Put a few miles on those coils, they'll settle out a bit more. My '52 Ford has 3" blocks in the rear and these same springs and it sits level.

I'm a 50/50 mix of ATF and acetone guy but this isn't your first rodeo. So use Seafoam or whatever works best for you. Looking forward it seeing/hearing it run the first time.

  19. Almost did that but the spray can stuff can reach places better.
Engine turns freely. Will pull heads if necessary.

  20. Got some parts. C4CBEAD3-7762-4C06-966B-FED735595FDA.jpeg
Hope the spring kits show up soon

  21. Intake valves just needed some lubricant.
3 exhaust valves aren’t cooperating, 2 will move but not close.
    One lifter is stuck.
    Soaking

Sometimes the varnish that seems to expand with disuse can be tough to get cleaned up. You might try shooting some carb cleaner at the sticky ones, let that kind of soak its way through, then use some of your favorite concoction again. We had a Plymouth flathead that fought us on the same front for a couple weeks before we tried acetone on them.

Congrats Ant Nee, following along closely. The pics of the kids piled in the Merc are priceless. Thanks for doing what you do, in the classroom and here on the HAMB. Much respect. Don't recall a thread where I wanted to hit like on most every post. I bet if you did a mess of L and XL shirts, you could make some foldin' money for the project fund.

  24. No folding $$$ for me.
I fund my own stuff but we do raise $$$ to send students to competition and do small jobs to help fund the shop. I’ve got a small but decent budget to keep the practice/instruction going. We had around 50 large refrigerant tanks that we made Halloween Jack-o-lanterns out of. Sold em and put that $$$ back in the program.
I fund my projects thru swapping/trading metal work for parts and pieces. Plus my wife has a better job than I have, financially speaking. :)
I’m a pro level scrounger. Plus Ive been saving up parts for years to build one of these.
so far the drop is less than $100. Shoes, wheel cyls, master cyl, hoses, seals and shocks have come in around $300. The car came with fresh drums.
the suspension is tight and we will probably just clean, grease, and install new dust covers.
If the flatty runs, I’ll use it. If not Ive got backups.

  25. Shoebox Central for the win with the front seals. Ordered Tuesday. Gottem Thursday 9EB0F7A1-FF7F-46CD-904C-D7F46020F855.jpeg

Just a clean up and prime. Not over thinking this one.

  26. The dual MC won’t work with the headers on the flatty.
We’ll still mess with the flatty for the next week.
I think I’ve got everything I need to do the 283.
Gotta crawl under one of my parts cars to check out the trans. Using the older style flatty trans equals no clutch mods.

  27. I sourced all my '59 brake parts from Rock Auto, used the old manual star wheels over. The backing plates just needed a wire brushing. Anything else rusty on the car went into the citric acid bath.

Shoebox Central is good to work with. Since they are local, I have gone to a couple open houses down there and know the owners. Good folks. :)

harvesting the good off this beater.
Has the earlier style trans. All linkage is complete. This would work if I plan to swap the engine.
    Engine is complete.
Could use the stock manifolds if I wanted to use the dual pot master cyl
Had a 2 door garnish molding. Well I be
