So, I have sold quite a few cars over the years, but never have bought a car/truck to "flip". I'm trying to drum up some money for the holidays after being laid off, and this truck came across my radar. It was reasonably priced so I figured why not? At first I was gonna just part it out. It should run, has a top loader three speed ******, F-1 brakes, shock mounts, center cross member, pedals, steering box...I figured it should be easy to make some money. But, after getting it home and looking it over I think it may be a good one to fix up a little, get it running/driving and move her on down the road. It has some rust in the common places, but otherwise not a bad ol pickup. The patina is great, and has some really neat add-ons like the visor, shades above the doors, spot light, ect. So, what do ya'll think?? It started snowing as I unloaded it in the driveway
Put Sandford and Son on the doors with Fred on one side and Big Dumby on the other Cool truck fix it and drive it....
I wouldn't part out a truck in that condition. that's a cool truck. what's that emblem on the side of the hood? looks Mopar.
It's alot easier to get it running and sell it than parting it out. That truck has some nice features and would clean up pretty good is my guess. Do you have a ***le??? If you do I would get it running first & driveable and if you can't sell it then you could always part it.
Thats a great truck! Be real hard for me to sell it if it were mine. Get it running and keep it! I just bought a '49 Ford 2 door which hasn't been started for couple years. Think I could flip it OK but I'm planning on keeping it.
So, is this kind of a cl***ified ad?? If it were mine, I'd leave it together, clean it up, get it running and driving and sell it. Neat old truck. Malcolm
Yeah, Every time I do this, I end up keeping it. Get it mechanically sound and drive it as a parts chaser. Kool Truck!
looks like a great truck in the making. I have the same sickness i just cant make myself sell'em. Better half said i have a disease that the doctors cant cure lol. The only cure is to try and get them all.
The problem with this is, every time you fix it up, you also wind up falling in love with it. Still, it's too nice to part out. Fix her up, get her roadworthy and mechanically sound, then put her up for sale. You probably won't make a ton on the resell, but it'll keep you busy while you're waiting for the economy to turn around. Somebody's always looking for a little "run around" truck!
hmmm..... laid off, holidays, might be wiser to stick to the game plan. just get rid of it before you fall in love with it! i'm sure another will come along for you in the future. just my 0.02
Would be a great beater/driver.We all know they are worth more running/driving/stoping. Looks real solid.
I too would like to know what the chrome thing in the middle of the dash is. I don't know what you paid or what you expect to get out of the truck. But if I had it, I'd consider selling the visor, ventshades, and the other add-on trinkets separately. They might cover the cost of the truck, and the truck isn't going to bring more money because it has these things, even though they are neat As for the truck, get it running, bleed the brakes out, so it's at least yard-drivable. But don't start "building" it. If you unbolt a fender, you've gone way too far. It might be fun to do some restoration or add your own personal touches to it, but it's not going to make you money. I've done some buying and selling, and the more work I put in, the less money I get back, so keep that in mind.
If you don't sell it, it would make a '*****in' daily driver. If things get a lot worse, then sell the current daily'. Life is Good.
Thanks guys. This truck was in North Idaho and when I saw pics and read the description on Craigslist it sounded pretty bad. After getting it I figured it was nicer than I had thought. I think it's worth saving. Yes, it has a ***le and the guy said he had it running last year. It turns over by hand so I'm sure it will. I don't plan on really doing anything to it other than get it running and stopping. I figure it's worth roughly 1500.00-2000.00 in parts, so if I can get more than that running I'll be happy. I would imagine a running truck in this vintage with this running gear would bring at least that. I put a battery in i when I unloaded it. The lights, horn and heater work, so thats a plus. The chrome thing in the center of the dash is a cigar lighter/ashtray. It flips open to reveal the lighter and tray. Pretty neat. The emblems on the sides are Thunderbird badges. This is not meant to be a cl***ified add. I just like showing what I pick up and what I plan to do with it, if the mods feel this is too "saleish" then please just delete it.
Oh yeah, and I really don't have to worry about falling in love with it...I just sold my nice orriginal F-1 to do a little older pickup. This truck is neat, but not really what I need
darn kids! out collecting old trucks when your supposed to be keeping a eye on those hosers up north trying to relocate our vintage tin! if your looking for a job don't apply for a security guard until you get a few more years experience cool truck.
Looks more fix-er-up-ish than part-er-out-ish but then again it's easier to destruct than construct. In the 80's a friend of mine would buy nice running/driving 67-69 Camaros and part 'em good luck on your flipper
That truck is in really good condition from the pics . The cab corners look good and the rest doesn't look to bad either ! I would go with the , get it running good with the drive & stop , then sell it . If you lived closer to me we would be talking about the truck ! I love those Ford trucks ! You show be able to make some money off it if it runs and stops . Let us know how it runs ! RetroJim
on a truck like that , I would look at it this way. This poor ol truck has made it through life this far without someone F-ing it up...I'm not going to be the one to do it. ...I'd get it running and enjoy it.
