Used a s**** pc of teak wood to make this. Took way too long to sort this out, but it’s done at least.
I got a bunch of those plastic holders in standard and metric, like the ones shown in the original post. Then I filled as many of them as I could. Then I added one set into the tooling of every machine in the shop, one in each toolbox etc and a bunch of spares in the spare section of my main toolbox. Whenever I work on anything I have a full set ready to go. If I notice a key is missing from a set I immediately do two things. First I curse the devil for sending my precious tools into the ****abyss. Then I go to the spares box and make the set whole again.
I have 3 or 4 full American sets, less one or two sizes each. I lose or break one, the get a new set to replace the missing one. And of course a couple handfuls of loose single ones. I keep the US ones in my mechanic's drawer. Then I keep the metric pile of wrenches in my woodworking drawer on the other side of my shop. Have a metric set or two but tons of Ikea loose ones.
I built elevators for a few years when I was young and strong. I was an apprentice and could not bring my own tools other than channellocks and a multi tip screwdriver, nothing I hated more than searching a drawer with 50 loose wrenches to find the one I want. or allen wrenches not in a holder. my buddy has a roll away bigger than my car. he has more misc parts and garbage in it than tools. that makes no sense to me
A holder of metric and a holder of reg-u-lar... Always put um back in the holder, if something comes from Amazon with wrenches I use um to ***emble, and throw um in the recycle bin. And I consider myself pretty disorganized, lol. Some of you fellas are making me feel better about my tool drawer....
We’ll see how long these last before they’re lost. Lost one of my brand new Dewalt driver bits installing them. I swear there’s a black hole in my garage…
