Regardless of wether or not you like Boyd, his employees don't work any harder than any real working man out there, so when they whine and don't have the guts to just tell boyd they don't want to work for him anymore I get pissed off.

I watched that show last night, and I wouldn't work for Boyed period. The guy is a jurk, not to mention how much money he took from people in his last business. I did a quality job for him in his shop, New compressor and installation with piping and coolers etc. He held me off with its comming, its comming, and I finally called him direct and told him I was a hotrod guy also and could he please pay me the $10 K he owed me and he said he would. A week later he declared bankrupsy. Never got a dime. You tell me where the cool is there, the guy deserves everything he's getting.--TV

The key person that use to work for boyd fuckinitupagainton (ya can never make a classic look good unless it remains that way) was Jesse James. I know through the inner circle that he swore that he would never treat his employees the way floyd did! I know a couple of peeps that do work for him at WCC and they are all happy! Hat's off to Jesse for what all he has accomplished with what he has set out to do in his mind and did it. That there, speaks for itself! KNUX!

The sad part - at least to me - was I started to watch the show expecting to see and learn how some of the newer "Hot Rods" were being built by the "pros."

Trouble is they seem to spend all their time fighting with each other.
And I haven't learned much. (more) Other than how to "slam" doors closed; throw things around and "back stab" the other people on staff.

Non-compete? Well California is a right to work state (as is North Carolina) and non-compete clauses just don't seem to hold up in court unless you're dealing in trade secrets. I don't think Boyd has any of them...

  7. While I've been holding off posting about this since I got the idea they didn't want discussions about Boyds shop here.....

My opinion is Mike was being a real dick to Boyd and it looks to me like a few people have really been screwing him over lately. He seems like a hell of a nice guy who loves cars & hot rods. ALl the stuff he's offered to do for those guys and buy them (like Bluebear being too damn lazy to even get up and meet Boyd at a swap meet so he could pay for all his parts to build a car that he gets to keep....what an ungrateful maggot.), letting them live at his house, probably letting them use the shop for anything they want, etc. Every waking moment of Boyds life is about building cars, going to shows, etc. Most "everyday" people would think he was nuts for putting cars so far out front as his #1 priority, for years. I he so different than so many of us who wake up and go to sleep thinking about their projects and how to build them ? The only problem I'd have working there is Duhwayne, in fact if it weren't for me doing for myself the same thing he's doing (on a much smaller scale of course), I'd love to work there. Maybe I'm looking at it from a standpoint of a buisness owner who knows how things have to be done. You don't need negative assholes shooting down projects before they're even off the ground and moping around about how things "should" be done, and whining about deadlines. Damn man, you're in Cal. weather, you're working with top notch tools, on high dollar cars that end up being world renowned, building trick stuff, with other skilled people, in one of the most prestegious shops there is on the planet, with a bunch of other like minded talented guys, doing what you love, building cars & hot rods.......yeah they had it "so" bad. They don't always build my type of cars, but so what....do you have to be working on junk rusted bodies on jack stands dropping in greasy old tired motor & trannys to be a "real" hot rodder ? I'm not pointing any fingers here, but sometimes I wonder if people don't resent or dislike him because of the bucks up type of operation it is, when they can't even scratch together enough money for a set of tires. It seems like some people have the attitude that if you aren't poor as dirt like kids in the 30's & 40's were and trying to build a car on $10.00 parts you can't be "in the club". Maybe I don't know the whole story, but I like Boyd and think he's pretty damn sharp & visionary. Asbestos underwear are on, flame away.:)
