So a little background first here... has anyone checked out www.karlskustom.com webpage, lots of neat shirts and a gooder for old Boyd fans out there as it says "Floyd Cotterpin, Losing Relevance since 1979" . Well i couldnt resist that one as it looks just like a Boyds garage shirt haha!!

Now also on their site they had posted a contest where if you coudl get a pic with Boyd while wearing this shirt then you could win merchandise from Karls kustom. Neat idea but when would i ever get to be that close to him when i live in Saskatchewan Canada right...

Well recently the auto dealers of this province hosted a autoshow (waste of money as its like an indoor car lot) but was bringing in Boyd Coddington to sign autographs, well hell nows my chance right???

Well I paid my 10 bux last night for a huge waste of money in my mind. So in other words about 6 decent interesting Italian cars, otherwise, waste of money and time.

But... i did try to meet Boyd haha!! I stood in line for half an hour to get my picture with him while wearing my awesome "Floyd Cotterpin" shirt. Anyways when i finally did get right up to him, he picked out the shirt before i had any chance to say anything and he was as grouchy and gruff as he is on TV. So he held up his image well that i will say. He told me "Dont even think that you are gonna get a picture with me with THAT on" Then said " I have not even seen one of those shirts till now" So i said " Well if you have never even seen one you should get your picture with me as then you will even have a copy to remind you what it looks like, all in good fun" His reply was " NOWAY, you are NOT takin your picture with me" I had thought he might actually be a good sport and such but no sense of haha at all.

His wife sat there yippin that the guy who makes those shirts really hates you Boyd, he really hates you.

Well I never saw much from him in how he treated anyone gettin an autograph that made me think he was such a great guy... not very personable, he would only say a couple words and the signature doesnt even look like his signature, its just a scribble... certainly not worth the 10 bux to get in... But makes a good story and we all had a good laugh anyways..

You shoulda brought the whole northside crew - armed them ALL with digital cameras - and told them to just start snapping away like madmen and women when you were anywhere near boyd!

    Funny Story

    Grumpy Man.

Hey - the Majestics show in Regina is last weekend of April right?

I saw Boyd at Louisville a couple years ago. He just finished a PR shoot and was standing by his alumatub chassis. This took place in his display on the parking lot just outside the main display building. I asked him a very straight forward question about the principle of the front suspension . He looked at me and said " If you don't know what the hell you are looking at, you couldn't afford to buy it".

My wife was shocked at my response, " Boyd I would not walk across the street to piss on you if you were on fire" and walked away. The crowd was taken back by his rudeness. It is no wonder he has to have new help all the time. Only retards would work for him.

there is a link to what the shirt looks like. I figured you guys on here would appreciate a good story like this anyways. I tell ya, we had a good laugh about it anyways. I am sure others in the line waitin were wondering why the hell he wouldnt allow me to get a picture with him. It was hilarious.

Oh and yes, April 29 - 30 is Majestics Car show here, one week away. Should be their best show ever being as its the 40th anniversary and they are gettin a lot of old rods that were in shows of days gone by to be in it.

Should have worn a jacket or buttondown shirt over it and opened it up as the picture was taken.. Too bad some folks dont have a sense of humor.

What's the deal with bashing this guy? He's a human with a family trying to make a living like everyone else. I'm still trying to figure out why he's a villain. If he's "losing relevance" he'll take his lumps in his reputation and his business; that's punishment enough for anyone.

Would he be "relevant" if he started making "rat rods" ? His isn't the only way to ruin a car, it's just not the one that's in style.

Sounds to me like the guy selling the shirts is the asshole. That's absolute fu*king genius, isn't it? Copy the style of the guy's logo and make fun of his name for profit. Ha ha ha!!! God, the creativity is staggering!!! He must be proud to be making a name for himself in this way. How much did you spend on that t-shirt? Then you "wasted" money and half a day of your time to go to a car show you hated to wait in line to insult somebody.

    Hilarious.

Give it up and go to the garage guys.

  13. The guy with the "floyd" shirts is just finding a niche market and catering to it - that's called capitalism, baby...

As for Boyd, you don't have to be a total prick to make a living.

I'll let others debate if the comment about the ratty rides is implying that's what most people here are building, tho -

Research his history...watch his show...appearently meet him in person...

From what I've seen his "style" is a ripped off version of Lil' Johns cool homebuilt smoothies...commercialized and smoothed even further for mass production in a custom setting.

He won't starve as long as theres more money than brains floating around...and he doesn't need (or seek!) the adoration of homebuilders or the poor.

Besides...Celebrities are fun to pick on!!! LoL

I agree with Extremist. So you saw his soap opera on TV and you think he's a jerk, then you wear a T-shirt poking fun at his name and expect him to be a nice guy to you. That's stupid.

I'll pay $5 to the first guy who gets a picture next to Kruzer63 wearing a T-shirt that says "Kruzer63 is a douchebag"

I'm just mad at Boyd because he is one of the main reasons every Joe Blow in the country thinks the heap sittin' out in his back yard that he's "savin' to fix up for his boy" is worth a ton of money. Joe Blow watches stuff like Boyds show and thinks a millionaire will show up sometime and offer him enough to retire for it. His kind of people and my kind of people are totally different. Guys like him don't care if I can afford anything, they would be happier if the upper class were the only ones who could afford hot rods. A bunch of doctors, lawyers and executives driving six figure cars around and never turning a wrench on them.

Fuck Boyd. He makes us all look bad. The truth is that the public sees Boyd, and that is their idea of a hot rod builder.

Here's one more story of Boyd being sub-human. If he had a fucking clue or sense humor he might get a little respect.

I hope he gets crabs from his skank wife.

Well, shit. I'll add to this. I dislike Boyd and alot of the other high end builders, not for thier personalities,( Steve Strope from pure Vision seems like a really cool guy), but for the way they can distort people's views of hot rodding. When I was a kid in the ninties, all I saw was these really rad cars in the magazines. Then I saw how much they cost. Big heartbreak. I'll never see $400,000. I'll never have a cool car. Little did I know that you didn't need cubic dollars to have fun. Even if I never build a traditional rod, I take the HAMB idea of "no paint, no intierior, no problem" to heart. It's more important to have fun with the car than brag how much you spent on it..

  27. Since the discussion turned, to it; Yep, what goes around comes around. I've never met the dude. But I'll give my review based on what I saw on the t.v. show, it's comedy, and entertaining. I also enjoyed the skill of Charlie, how he expertly handled Boyd's shit. And Blue, how he absolutely refused to take Boyd's shit. When given a 'Boyd Ultimatum', Charlie just grinned and shrugged. The meet with Boyd and Charlie with Boyd all ruffled and petty, mad at Charlie for getting a better job....Get a life. Congradulate him and say good-bye, because you (Boyd) might have to work for (Charlie) someday!
Of course most can't base complete judgement by that, it's all scripted flim-flamm. But I read body language, and never saw B.C. open up. If one-one-hundredth of the way he treats employees is factual, he's a mouse-turd. Based on that I wouldn't walk across the street to meet him.

That shirt is a masterpeice, if he was half a man, he would have got a kick out of it, bought it from you, and put it on hisself for a picture......

First time he'd seen it? That was prolly a bald faced lie.
