Read my post again you will see that I offered a sympathetic approach as I have been in the unfortunate position ,more than once,to see a drunk die from Cirrhosis . Because the third post in this thread suggested liver failure ,I was saying that I hope the man isn't in too much pain.
I never made any assertion that he was a drunk, But he is grossly overweight and in a few posts above it has indeed been suggested that he drinks.
Again,For Boyds Sake ,let us all hope he is being spared the agony .

I feel Hagen has put it in a pretty balanced way.

I wish him no ill will but I am a little surprised That someone who was thrashed to death at every oppertunity on this board is suddenly being reinvented as the patron saint of hot rodding.

I wish him and his family well but I didn't like him yesterday and I'm honest enough to still think he's a prick today. Sorry but hypocracy really pisses me off. If you can't be honest about your feelings whats left?

I've NEVER commented on him....and won't start NOW.

    BUT

IF I had bad-mouthed him before, deserved or otherwise, I'd be shutting RIGHT UP at a time like this!

My Grandma calls it "Basic Respect"

I hope the least worst for him and his loved ones.

Never was a big Boyd fan...until the Goodguys show in Nashville last year. My POS truck was dead and needed a charge on my battery jumper box. I was walking through the "Better Than Most" area with my jumper box and Boyd's son came out of the big truck and said "Dad said you can plug up to our generator if you want" I was shocked! Since then no more bad mouthing Boyd.

I hope he will be O.K.

My wife and I met Boyd at Goodguys Scottsdale this past fall. he was just sitting there with 3 other people. I came up, said "hey" and stuff. Took the time to greet my wife and chat a bit.
I've never seen his show, cable doesn't run down my street and I'm too cheap for satellite, but that's alright. Anyway, we had a nice brief meet and it was good to shake the hand of an automotive legend. I definetely wish him a fast recovery and comfort.
He and Lil John were two guys I paid attention to back in the '80s.

  10. No offence meant - just a heads up on the little known fact that the major cause of cirrhosis is NOT alcohol.

Any way - best wishes to him for a recovery and every sympathy to all his loved ones who must be in great distress just now.

You guys better watch out what you are saying on the internet about someones health conditions without their consent. I work in this area (Health insurance/Hipaa/privacy lawsetc.) Mentioning someones health conditions without their consent is breaking major Federal Hipaa laws and has severe fines attached.

I don't like the way he builds cars either -- but certainly do wish him only the best on his road to recovery --

Our sincerest best wishes to Boyd and his family.
The guy took time for me when I was just starting out, and gave me some great advice (probably more than he knows), and was THE builder to me as a kid. Reality shows and whatnot be damned, I hate to see anyone battling health problems. Get well, sir.

But when you say "he made his mark" I can't seem to get past the ethics he used to make that mark. The countless people and companies that never got paid for making products for him. He hurt a lot of people finanicially, he even hired people and never paid them for their work or talent, what they were worth. And lets not forget all the illegal car registrations and phony titles cases that were uncovered so he could make more money. If anything, this only hurt the Hot Rod world and caused many DMV's to look closer at vintage car registrations.

I have always seen him more as a Street Rodder than a Hot Rodder.

Yes, he made his mark, but how he will be remembered, will be dependent upon how well you knew his true character.

I never met the man, but I agree with this assessment from what I do know. In the end, we should only be judged by how we treated others and whether or not we were givers or takers during our time. I wish the gentleman, and his family, the very best.

As for discussing his medical condition on line, I believe it would only violate Federal laws if actual medical records were released, or discussed by individuals in a position to know -those with access to his medical records.

If the government is going to come after the HAMB because someone speculated maybe Boyd has cirrhosis or was diabetic or maybe consumed alcohol, we've got a lot more problems than hotrodding.

    Good luck, Boyd.

  26. I was so shocked when Woody told me about Boyd. We met Boyd and were
lucky to talk to him for a bit in Louiseville. A very touching moment for us, as
he took time to talk with us, and even took a few pictures. Later we met his
wife and she too was super. So sorry to hear he is not well. Our prayers go out
to him and his family during this trying time.

Nah,of course you should go to the doctor-especially since I am in the medical field myself. Fortunately, we don't have the same disclosure regs in vet medicine. My point was, it is okay to discuss it here since we don't have actual knowledge of his medical condition, only speculation. In fact, why not go see your doctor today. I'll bet it's been a while.:)

  28. Sorry to hear of Boyd's troubles. I too have respect for his talents as a builder and wish him the best. Just curious, anyone know how old he is? I'd guess 60ish. He's been around a long time. At any rate here's to a speedy and complete recovery.

  29. Boyd was born in '44.
