Kevin Lee for R&C just posted that he passed this morning.

Loss for the hobby for sure.

No. A poster actually made a comment that Boyd had diabetes. That was not speculation. That is a no no under Hipaa. Another poster made a comment that you can only get in trouble if medical records are released. That is also wrong. A verbal comment about some ones medical treatment is a no no without their consent. For instance, many doctors offices have been fined for releasing verbal information on a medical condition for instance to a brother or sister of a patient.
Nothing gets out unless a patient release is signed.

Most of you may know me from the T.V. show "American Hotrod" on TLC! I grew up in a small town in Idaho. My passion for hotrods began at an early age I had an older brother to whom I always looked up too, he and his friends were all into cars, in Rupert at the age of 14 you could drive if you lived and worked on a farm, so preparing for my adventure into the driving world and not enjoying hunting I found a neighbor that would take my shotgun in on a trade for a pickup truck. When my Dad came in from milking the cows he didn't think the trade was very good, he made me return the truck for the shot gun, finally my Mother convinced my Dad to make the trade good. From that time until today I love hot rods. I feel very fortunate to be able to make a living for my family doing what I love to do. I still read everything I can get my hands on about cars, hotrods, street rods, rat rods, lowriders, and race cars. I never dreamed that one day I would be so lucky to have a small article in Hot Rod magazine, let alone be on a TV show. I could never do it alone, there are many craftsman that have worked with me and some continue to work with me after 24 years, to all of them and some really great customers I owe everything to you! </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

This post can be closed now. I can't imagine feeling any worse about this news. I don't think it's right for one more person to add "didn't like his style" when he did so much to actually create his own style rather than just follow trends. The style BEFORE Boyd shook up the hot rod world was a lot worse- at least he considered STANCE and quality builds to be more important than van styled street rods- and changed that. He took great risks and with that comes a huge legacy. He will be deeply missed by all those who shared a minute of his time. Nothing compares to when I finally went inside the business as a magazine guy and still thought nobody knew me- but walking in the lobby of a hotel Boyd smiled, waved and said "Hi Jim"- for that second I felt like a superstar! This was before the TV show and I just knew and admired him for the builder that turned street rodding on it's ear like like no one other man has EVER done. This is only the second time I've been choked up at the loss of a rodder from his generation- seems wayyy too soon- Rest in Peace Boyd.
