Boyd passed away this morning

The "Street Rod" thing isn't MY thing, but I am terribly sorry I never got to meet him. I believe he was very influential and somewhat responsible for many trends and ideas, both good and bad.

My father-in-law once said to me, "Have you ever heard of Boyd Coddington?"

I replied with "Have you ever heard of Dr. Suess?"

IMO Boyd did for "Street Rods" what Dr. Suess did for kid's books.

 

Our sincere condolences go out to his family and close friends.

Some of you may not have liked his work , but Boyd Coddington was truly one our era's finest hot rod pioneers, He took the chance to push the envelope and open doors for hot rodding where they had never been opened before.

Boyd- may there be a shiny , billet clad hot rod- wherever you are.

You will be sorely missed and always remembered for what you did for us hot rodders. Thank you.

 

Man, I dont really know what to say. My deepest heartfelt sympathies to the whole Coddington family. I worked for Boyd for two years, we sometimes had our differences, But overall he was a good guy!! I liked Boyd he worked hard (usually at the shop before everyone else) People need to put their style differences aside and remember he is a hero to hot rodding. Honestly I think I owe Boyd a little bit, I learned alot working there.

sad news - i still see him with a vision on his tv show - like his style or not...RIP...few of us will ever get to the stature he achieved in the hotrod community...a true pioneer in his own rite and a leader that many tried to replicate....as we grey beards age, this scene becomes way too frequent!...build til you die.

 

RIP MR Coddington...The world of rodding is a different place thanks to men like you....my prayers and condolences got out to his family and friends...

RIP Boyd...You will be missed.

 

No pictures,but I did get the honor of meeting him two years ago at the Louisville street rod nationals,one night I was leaving my room and when I steeped out of my room there he was ,so I asked him to sign my hat and he did ,but I was glad he didnt notice that I was wearing my Floyd Cotterpin shirt.

I cant belive it. My son met him and talked to him and even got his autograph but i didnt expect this. This is so sad. Regards to his family and friends.

When a musical icon passes away we have the music, With Boyd's passing we have some really cool cars in his memory. Rest in peace Boyd, Thank you for all you have done for the hobby.

 

The first Boyd car I can remember, is an early Ford Model T, Center Door Sedan that was featured in a mid-seventies Street Rodder Mag. The build quality was well-above the standard for the times. I wish I had a photo. His hard work, vision, and attention to detail put him on the map.

Like it or not but Boyd influenced most if not all the hot rodding world. He may not have built all traditional cars but what he did build inspired all of us to build tradition to rival that movement(and even a message board). His craftsmanship can be appreciated as so with many others. He kept the younger crowd at least interested in the hot rod scene some even growing into liking the traditional scene like us.(at least he kept them away from the riceburners). With that being said much respect and ride on Boyd......

 

Rest in Peace Boyd and my prayers are with the family. Being a guy that was raised up with cars and around all different kinds of them, I have always had mad respect for the man. I called my dad and told him he had died and it sounded like he may have been tearing up. Boyd was always his hero in the car world, and someone who definetally earned the respect of everyone in it.

This is the first car magazine I ever bought in 1982 while I was a teenager. I read and reread this article back then. The sketches inspired me to start sketching cars which I still have some of. A few pages later is a nice 48 chevy truck. My first ride that I still have is a 53 chevy truck. It wasn't until recently that I re read the article describing who designed and built the Vern Luce coupe. These influences have been with me for years and I never knew who designed the car. I just thought it was cool.

I want to see some picts of the 32 woody he build back in the day .. One of the only cars I really liked..

 

opinions are like ass holes everybody has one right? The guy was a hard worker and built some amazing things, everyone who has built a car can appriciate the time and effort put into anycar no mater how ugly or beutiful it may be . He may not have built them the way you wanted them built so thats why you built yours the way you did. I was at del mar 5 years ago taking pictures and boyd came up to me and we started talking . he was asking me what i found interesting and what caught my eye. tattod and rough looking turned to him and told him exactly what . it may not be the whole car but a body line reformed or the way a chop was done . he stood up for a whole lot of the younger guys out there ... he was a nice guy . and i would love to see his older stuff thats why i got on this post not to read complaints .

not the oldest by far but if you ever have stood next to it you know hot hot it is
