WOW, thats quite a eulogy. its pretty impressive when you see it all written dow in one place like that. Even though i really lean toward the traditional side of hotrodding, i can say he was influential to me (being that Im 30) I remememer seeing his cars at the goodguys and in magazines growing up. RIP.

What I envied about Boyd is that he was a regular car guy who worked his ass off at various jobs to feed his hooby and ended up able to make a successful living at his hobby. His tastes were different than mine, but he was true to his style. Godspeed.

Our sincerest condolences to his family.
Outside of a few very notable designers, it was Boyd's work that inspired me to make a go in this industry.... Always made time to talk with me at shows, no matter how hectic his schedule.
    Thanks for the inspiration, sir.

  9. My prayers are with his family. Bad news for the whole rodding community. Like his style or not, he will be remembered as a pioneer.

Like his style or not, he was a true pioneer in the hobby/sport. The stuff he and Little John did back in the late 70's and early 80's put Hot Rodding front and center. Godspeed Boyd.

Only 63 when he passed. Too young, too soon. All respect to his memory and sympathy to his loved ones.

I got to meet him in person down in Columbus Ohio for the Goodguys show this last summer. I build a 1:24 model car of the 61 Chevy called "Roy", I had a lot of help on the project from Greg and Todd Eddmons and his wife Jo. He was very supprised on the project when I gave it to him, We did two of them one for Boyd and the other was done for lee who was Roy's side kick that was learning from him. The one for Lee was taken and put into the GG Model show and won "Best Street Machine".. I got to spend two days around them down there and loved every min, of it.

God Speed and build some wild street rods in heaven.

  22. The reason for dying is to make life important.Every show I have been to that featured a Boyd Pro Pick, was always a 2 hr. line up to get in. Must say something about his charisma. Like it or not he was agreat asset to the sport.TBJ

In hotrods it's not what you build ,but how you build it. I think he had a lot of pride in everything that came out of his shop . He will be missed. R.I.P. Boyd

Let us add some pix !!!
If you liked him or not :
Coddington got his first car (a 1931 Chevrolet truck) at the age of 13 while living in Rupert, Idaho. He attended machinist trade school at Idaho State University and completed a three year machining apprenticeship. He move to California in 1966, building hot rods by day and working as a machinist by night. He became known for building unique hot rods and in 1977 he opened his own shop in Cypress, California, which he called Hot Rods by Boyd. Vern Luce was his first customer and his car (a ‘33 coupe) won the Al Slonaker Award at the Oakland Roadshow of 1981. .....

The Vern Luce coupe is IMHO the FINEST "Hot-Rod" ever built ...
( Thanx to every1 involved in that build !! )

Well, I gotta say wow! I'd never wish death on anyone even though I know that it is gonna get us all eventually. Sorry to hear about his passing,
He had a knack of knowiing the right talent to get cuttin edge street rods built.
I'll always remember seeing the Hot Dogs By Floyd shirt at Western Nats back in 83, Magazine people were smitten by him.
RIP bud, but remember, you left owing me hinges on my 29 cab that you cut off when you borrowed it to have Macel/Sons make you Aluma Truck!
    Godspeed.
