Hi it's Lea from Still Runnin Magazine. We are looking for interesting places to travel to let folks know that even in touch economic times and high gas prices that there are tons of places to go not far from there own home to take a trip to in their ride and enjoy the summer / or fall for that matter and would like your help. So if you care to share with me what your hometown has to offer, or maybe somewhere or thing you fell upon during one of your cruises please email me. lea@stillrunnin.com
My home town is known as the city of Murals as there are over 60 western themed murals on the walls of buildings in town. We also have the tallest flag pole and one of the biggest flags in Central Wa. Flag pole is 160 something ft tall and the normal flag is 30'X 60' while the special occasion flag is 40'x80'. http://www.toppenish.net/ Good burgers and root beer at Dad's drive in too.
Now see I didn't know that! What awesome murals, maybe someday I will be able to get there to see for myself! Thank you for that, I will continue to read the link you included. There is so much to see in this country! We did 6500 mi. on a M/C ran along the water up the east coast, through Canada, back down into the states to SD. What a trip, it was fantastic. It is America the Beautiful! Thank you. Keep them coming guys! Lea
Black Hills of South Dakota. A million things to do and some of the finest scenery in the world. You can climb Hearny Peak, the tallest mountain between the Rockies and the Pyrennese at 7242 Feet.
Anoka Minnesota. The city where anti cruise laws were strictly enforced years ago now holds a cruise night for 1980 and older cars every saturday night all summer. 1360 cars there last night. Every thing from stock model Ts to GT40s are seen there. Many are very HAMB freindly cars, mixed in with lot of Muscle cars, rat rods ect. Food vendors and great resturants neat the cars. If your near the north suburbs of Minneapolis check it out.
stuart fl, awful place, alagators,mosquitos,big snakes,yankee's,crowed beach,dirty river,no fish,gallions have been plundered,nothing left,dont come, awful here.......

Now that's not what I heard of Stuart, Fl. LOL You just don't want anymore snowbirds. LOL I lived in Daytona, FL for over 22 years. In Orlando the Old Town is a blast for a cruise! Lea
Neepawa Manitoba...Lily Capitol of the World! Besides that claim to fame, our little town (pop. 3300) has a TON of beautiful old character homes dating as old as the 1880's. We're also a short 45 minute drive from picturesque Riding Mountain Nat'l Park.
Betterton (MD), beach town in the summer, ghost town in the winter. Getting into trouble was the only way to find fun, especially in the winter. Summer was always hot sand, hot cars, hot boats, and hot girls, girls and more girls. At least back then. Definitely not now.
Ocean Springs-Biloxi, Mississippi, right on the Gulf, we have 100 percent humidity, and every couple of years, killer hurricanes that wash everything you own out to sea . It's great!
Ridgefield, Ct. 300th year Anniversary this year, only town in the state to see a battle in the Revolutionary War. Still have a cannonball stuck in the side of one house on Main Street. George Washington slept here, Benidect Arnold fought here. Lots of restored homes from the 1880-1900 era.
Seriously the cannon ball still stuck there? VA is loaded with history too. We are planning on doing the Hollywood Cemetary soon again. Just visited the museum with a moonshine exhibit.
Tacoma has Hot-Rod-a-Rama,Close to Puyallup with Goodguys at the fiargrounds. We also have the western washington fair in sept. Just south of town is Roy with its anual rodeo. Tacoma also has the LeMay collection out in Spanaway. Downtown has the glass museum, and if thats not enough,come by my house and I'll show you the pictures of my new granddaughter{shameless plug huh?}

Greenville, SC is where we call home now although neither Ken (Slick50) nor I are actually from here. We'll lived here for 20 years and have seen Greenville flourish into a small city which we are very proud of. 1st attachment is our wonderful performing arts center named the Peace Center after one of the families who had the vision for this very special place: <SCRIPT language=javascript type=text/javascript> function append_Cookie(pValue) { var search = "Trip="; var oldvalue = ""; if (document.cookie.length > 0) { offset = document.cookie.indexOf(search) if (offset != -1) { // if cookie exists offset += search.length // set index of beginning of value end = document.cookie.indexOf(";", offset); // set index of end of cookie value if (end == -1) end = document.cookie.length; oldvalue = unescape(document.cookie.substring(offset, end)) var exp = new Date(); exp.setTime(exp.getTime() - 1); document.cookie = "Trip=" + pValue + ";expires=" + exp.toGMTString(); } } if (oldvalue.length > 0) document.cookie = "Trip=" + oldvalue + pValue + ","; else document.cookie = "Trip=" + pValue + ","; var span1 = document.getElementById("span_" + pValue); var link1 = document.getElementById("a_" + pValue); link1.style.display = "none"; span1.style.display = ""; } </SCRIPT><TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD style="WIDTH: 695px" vAlign=top><TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD> <TABLE style="WIDTH: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: left" cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 border=0><TBODY><TR><TD id=ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_tdCli_Name colSpan=3>The Peace Center for the Performing Arts</TD></TR><TR><TD id=ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_tdAddress style="WIDTH: 45%">300 South Main Street </TD><TD style="WIDTH: 10px"></TD><TD id=ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_tdIp_op_hours style="WIDTH: 210px" vAlign=top rowSpan=5></TD></TR><TR><TD id=ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_tdCSZ style="WIDTH: 45%">Greenville, SC 29601</TD><TD></TD></TR><TR><TD id=ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_tdPhone style="WIDTH: 45%">864 467-3000</TD><TD></TD></TR><TR><TD id=ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_tdEmail style="WIDTH: 45%"></TD><TD></TD></TR><TR><TD id=ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_tdUrl style="WIDTH: 45%">http://www.peacecenter.org</TD><TD style="WIDTH: 15px" vAlign=bottom align=middle></TD></TR><TR><TD id=ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_td_AddTrip colSpan=3> Add to My Trip PlannerAdd to My Trip Planner | Map It! </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE> </TD></TR><TR><TD><TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD class=ContentText id=ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_tdDescription style="WIDTH: 450px" vAlign=top>The Peace Center for the Performing Arts lies at the heart of downtown and is home to 5 resident companies: Greenville Symphony, Greenville Chorale, Carolina Ballet Theatre, South Carolina Children's Theatre and International Ballet. I live just North of Daytona Beach. There's a lot of motorcycle events in this area but I'd like to see more car related events. One attraction to this area for the bikers is that there are so many sights to see while cruising around the area. It's beautiful here. Someone is trying to put together a "Dream Cruise" type event in Daytona this October. I really hope this comes off well. There's also a great show at the Speedway during Thanksgiving weekend.
Big car shows in Greenville, we could only wish. HotRodPrimer, here on the HAMB belongs to the Tri-City Rod & Custom car club. HotRodPrimer's club often has cruise-ins in Greenville but they do not draw hundreds and hundreds of cars but nice Saturday evening local shows. We travel a bit for the shows we go to, most recently the Cinematic which was brought to us by the HAMB board. One could search on Cinematic on the main board here or under the events thread. What a shame you missed the Cinematic which was just last weekend and in Gallipolis, OH - what a story that would have been for your magizine. Another story which would be worth reporting, if you have the budget, is the Lonestar Roundup in Austin, TX - in 2009 I think it is the weekend of 4/16-4/19. That is by far still our favorite show. If you do make it to Greenville, PM me and let me know you are coming we would be happy to show you around.
New Smyrna Beach south of Palm Coast closes down their main street once a month, http://www.stillrunnin.com/magazine/sr2/15-16 this is a real nice local show, always has a good turn out & Daytona H-D also is doing one too, I am not sure of the date of the H-D one at the moment. Dream Cruise I will have to find out about that one, (or it that Rosmyers H-D one) I'll be in Daytona in September & October for Biktoberfest and if I can manage the time Turley Run in November.
DeVille Gal, first thank you kindly for the welcome matt !! I would like very much to visit the area and promote the town , I understand it is a very nice town. It is very possible in the future we can roll through. Now the Cinematic we would have loved to been at. I would welcome the story, if the the board would want the show up in SR's pages'. If that were so, maybe you could round up some hi-res photos and jot a story of the event. Of all the shows so far my favorite is the Lead Sled show over Labor Day in Parsippany NJ.
