Brake Flaring Kit. What works for you?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Slick Steve, Jul 7, 2010.

  1. Slick Steve,
I have the Master cool flaring kit. You can borrow the tool if you would like.
And I would be glad to help you do the brake lines.

I also have a mastercool hydraulic flaring tool it's a little pricey but I never leave home with out it because its tits. If you buck the money it is one of best investment you'll ever make because mine makes a perfect flare eveytime even on stainless.:)

I've been using the same old Great Neck cheapo brand flaring tool kit that was once my dad's and now mine, for almost 50 years. When I was young I borrwed it from dad and didn't listen to his instructions. After going back and asking again I had no problems making good flares.
Just finished using it again last week for the steel fuel lines on my project, and I'm getting ready to do the brakes this coming week. I hope I can hand it down to my 40 yr. old "kid" too some day!
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to make good flares, just the right prep and technique, and a decent tool. Even a cheap decent tool.

I bet mastercool is awesome just more than my needs and budget. I got a $50 kit shoot dunno brand. After doing tons of flares I figured it out. I still forget to put the fitting on.
Now I've got the hang of it I can use the cheapy loan a tool from autozone.

Typical buy american or taiwan before china and you're not gonna regret it.

I'm gonna look at the eastwood kit

I think mastercool is $250 or more

I got a used bluepoint a couple of deployments ago and still have not used it. Brake lines are on the list after the steering is completed.

  6. X2.... and when your not using it rent it to your buddies and recover some of the cost. Once they use it they'll be back for more.
