I got an old dodge 1941 with drums and these cam adjusters. The shop manual calls for a special tool that will indicate the proper clearence at the tops and bottom of the shoes prior to installing the drum.....well that tool is not avail looked for several months. Anyone have an idea on the adjusment some other way Thanks

As for your brake question, are there any holes in the backing plate so you can adjust the cam with the drum on?

Either way, whether you have such a hole or have to take the drum on and off to adjust, I've always just turned the cam and pumped the brakes until I can just barely detect any brake drag when the wheel is spun without the brakes applied.

Hope it helps. Someone else will be along shortly to tell you I'm wrong. They might be right...
