Ok my 61 is throwing another curve ball at me. Took the family out for breakfast and a ride. Came back after about 1/2 hour and went to leave after a bout the same time..hit the brakes and they were hanging up. The entire brake system is new from the master out, they are power drum brakes, single res with a booster. Brakes were bled, no leaks anywhere, but never had much pedal action, but no pulling, noises, etc. the only thing is the lights will stay on, but know I think it's because of brake pedal pressure. It will eventually go off. Would you think rod adjustment would cause this? It was filled to the top with fluids so I took some out and drove back to my shop with no issues. Lets here your guesses
Check your rod adjustment. then... If the shoes are adjusted "too snug" they will heat up quick and tend to grab and bind. then... make sure the shoes didn't get contaminated even with greasy hand prints, this will make them heat up too. oh, make sure your pedal return spring is hooked up. then stop driving with two feet!
Should be 3/4" of free play in the brake pedal, if much less, that is the problem. Incorrect or contaminated brake fluid can also cause the cup in the master cylinder to swell up, and retain pressure. ---John
