ok, you guys have been great with all the help during my build. I need a lil more help, my 53 is m2 clipped and I want to run a mc/bb under the floor like it cam stock. but I dont have $400 for those fancy kits everyone sells. maybe Im missing something but is there a cheap way to just buy parts and ***emble one myself? Thanks
You can use the original pedal and master cylinder as they are. Gut the master cylinder and mount your new master/booster to the rear a foot or so. Make up a new brake rod and run it through the old master cylinder to the new booster. We've done this on a couple older cars and it works quite well.
Most of the underfloor kits are going to have a small diameter brake power booster. You should worry about the booster hanging down past the frame rail if you choose to do this with junkyard parts. Mustang II power boosters were pretty much the part to use in this sort of instance before the aftermarket stuff. If you have power steering you should consider using a hydroboost system our of a late Mustang. They work extremely well and are compact enough to fit underfloor.
