    howdy all !
I have been trying to sort out some stopping isues with my truck  ..
the whole system is new , speedway 3 master cylinder unit above the calipers , residual check valves , front vega disc brakes , rear j.f.z. 4 piston calipers ( they where on the rear from an old drag car of mine ) when stopping the pedal is solid , but the brakes barely stop the truck ... up in the air all 4 wheels stop , the line loc works fine ... the master cyl. bore sizes are 7/8" ..... the only flex lines are the ones to the front discs all others are 3/16"
the master cyl. worked fine on an old modified dirt car I raced .....

    any ideas ?????????
    thanks , ratso

what is the pedal ratio?(the distance from the foot pedal to the pivot, divided by the distance, from the pivot to the pushrod)that ratio should be around 5:1-6:1.anything less than that would give you a hard pedal but have no leverage to stop the truck.also,do you know what kind of brake pads you are running?if you are running a racing pad, they are designed to stop once they are heated up.a wilwood brake pad made for the street will fit in your jfz calipers.

    hope this helps.

Most of the drag race 4 piston calipers are designed much like
mid-seventies vette calipers. Most of them will accept the vette brake pads, don't go spending time and money lookling for "Street" pads. Get 76 vette pads, you may have to drill out the keeper hole and thats about it.

Rod and Custom mag has nice article on brakes and braking problems in the sept issue.

  5. your front brakes are vega? how big are them? they sound a little small compared to your rear brakes. the fronts do most of the braking
