okay, so spent most of the weekend trying to get the brake lights to light up...this is what works, this is what i've done: the running lights, blinkers and lights all work. I've taken out the old brake light switch replaced with new I've taken out the light switch and checked, cleaned and replaced frazzled wires. I've checked and getting power to the brake switch on the master cylinder. Ive traced the line all the way back to the rear and nothings weird... There has been a trailer light hook up spliced into rear (only place i can think may be a possible issue) but all other lights work??? I'm totally stumped...any suggestions?
Do you have power on other side of brakelight switch when the brakes are applied? Not sure which line you checked to the rear but the switched side of brakelight switch goes back to the turn signal switch which could be where your problem is.
So the brake switch has two prongs I did check both however only one had power I didn't check the other when the brake wS depressed. I'll do that thanks Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I had a '62 that ate brake light switches. Test by disconnecting the brake switch wires and run a wire to both wires, hooking them together...if the brake lights light up, the problem is the new switch
Okay, so just checked and the post lights up when brakes applied I traced and checked the line to the firewall and it's working, showing power when brakes are applied. So from what you said, should the next step be to check the column? Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
If you got blinkers then you should have brake lights... might check the grounds as stated or it will be in the signal switch as the brakes and lights run through there also!! Let me know if you need a wiring diagram I think I have a 64? which should be the same.
Caddi I checked the grounds n cleaned them. I think the signal switch is Next. It's in the column so I think I have to pull the steering wheel. Oh! A diagram would be great Spinwize@yahoo.com is my email Thx Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
You are on the right track now. It looks like the problem is either in the wire that feeds to the switch from he connector or in the turn signal switch it's self. This diagram is for earlier F100 trucks but should be close to the same as what you have Notice that the brake light feed from the switch feeds to both rear turn lights which are also the brake lights on that truck. Since they work with the turn signal switch the problem is either the contacts in the switch that the brake light switch connect to or the wire and or connections between them.
Excellent thanks. Gotta say this has been a challenge. But as you said getting in the right track. Thanks again. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Alright was just about to pull the steering to get to the wiring when a little voice said recheck the wire from the firewall. So I cut through years of duck tape and a little red frazzled wire fell to the cab floor. Traced it back to the brake switch an oh yeah. Replaced the whole frazzled line and they work.
