I am having some problems and need some help. I have a 39 Austin bantam wnd installed a lever type brake light switch from speedway. Following the same route the old plunger style switch, one connector went to starter solenoid, the other ran straight back to my brake lights. Problem is, the brake lights are running backwards. The brakelights stay on untill the lever is pushed, then they go off. When . When I switch the wires around nothing changes, lights stay on until you apply the brakes, then they go off. Thanks for sny help or advice.
Sounds like you need to have pressure on the lever when you're not stepping on the brakes and when you step on the brakes the pressure on the lever is released completing the circuit so the lights will come on.
You have the switch set up backwards. Meaning simply that the lever on the switch works opposite of the way you have it set up. Most of them turn the lights on when you push the pedal and the arm swings out so the switch makes contact and when you release the pedal the arm is pushed towards the firewall breaking contact in the switch. A couple of photos of what you have will help folks be able to give you some idea of what to do.
