Anybody have any great ideas for a brake light switch. I have one of those speedway switches with the little lever and it’s constantly giving me issues.

Do you have a port in the brake lines that will accept a pressure switch like those on a '54?

As GAmes mentioned you can plumb in a pressure actuated switch like what was used on many cars in the 50s and early 60s. Or you can use a plunger type switch that is activated mechanically by the brake pedal. I have found them to be more reliable than the lever type.

I use both of the ones mentioned because my computer needed one. I have had no trouble with either. My pressure switch comes off one of the master cylinder ports if I remember correctly.

If you are interested in a mechanical switch that mounts on the interior dash cross brace I have pic and a write up that I made for my 54. Message me with your email and I will send the info to you.

I'd be interested to see that. Might be able make it work on my '55. Could be a good one for the stickies.

I converted my '64 Ford to a mechanical switch around 1977. I had to fab up a small piece using angle iron as the stop and drill a hole for the stop and one for the switch.

IIRC, I used a '66-ish Mustang switch. My '59, I left enough slack in the pressure switch wires in case I wanted to go mechanical at some point.

Here's how I mounted a generic switch on my '54. One tab welded to the pedal ***embly mount, to mount the switch and one tab welded to the pedal itself to operate the switch.

My bracket is much less elaborate than the others but works well. Just a piece of angle iron with a hole drilled through it and welded in place.

I've recorded just about every part I've put on the car but this one apparently. Pretty sure it came from a parts store like Autozone/Advance/Napa and isn't anything special. Just a 12v mechanical brake switch like the others have posted

I believe that a self adjusting one, like the one in my '97 Dodge pickup, will work in that application.
