does the hydraulic brake light switch care what direction it aims, I mounted mine aiming at " 3 o'clock", as opposed to straight up, is there any reason it won't work this way? thanks

Those hydraulic brake light switches aren't wonderful. Step on the brake pedal and see at what point the brake lights actually come on...............you may be surprised to find that you are actually braking (slowing down) before that happens. A properly mounted and adjusted mechanical brake light switch will keep 'em off your ass. I left my hydraulic switch in place just as a back-up for the new mechanical one.
