I have a problem. On the 51 Chevy Business Coupe I have, we're redoing the brakes (along with everything else). On the master cylinder, on the exit port, there's a br*** block with a hollow through bolt, and two ports for brake lines. One of those brake line ports is stripped from being cross threaded (the smaller of the two). Anyone know where I can get this part? The Filling Station and Chevs of the 40's catalogs don't list it. Other than this one problem, the brake job has gone fine; even though it had the ORIGINAL shoes. Thanks. Butch/56sedanderlivery.
You could try talking to Vince at C.H. Topping - they have been doing nothing but brakes since 1931. www.chtopping.com
Thanks Weasel, I had that company in a file I keep, just never thought of it until you brought it up. Oldmic, it's got a brake line flare to it, I don't now how I would go about doing that. I tried to run a tap in, but it bottoms out after just a couple of turns. The search continues. Thanks, Butch/56sedandelivery.
You might be able to drill and tap it for 1/8" pipe tap. Then get a male adapter to the 1/4" inverted flare to screw into it. I think it is a factory piece and not an off the shelf universal fitting.
Take the block off, take it into a Napa store, and make someone get out the brake parts catalog. I'd bet money they can get you one.
Last night I went to see a friend that deals in tri-five cars and parts. He had a bunch master cylinders off tri-five cars, and several of them had the same br*** block, most however, did not. I got one of the blocks, and another for a spare. Thanks for the help/advice, and also to those that P.M.'d me. Long live the HAMB! Butch/56sedandelivery. Also, I borrowed his plasma cutter to remove the firewall supports, parking brake fulcrum, and 8" out of the cross member on the 51 Chevy Business Coupe my nephew and I are working on. It's my car, but it's going to be his first "HOT ROD". His "real" dad had a 49 Business Coupe in high school (69-70 or so), so it'll be kind of like that. This car will have a 355 SBC, built Powerglide, tri-five rear with 4.88:1 Positraction; his dads car had a 327, 4-speed, and 57-64 style Pontiac rear. Butch/56sedandelivery.
