I have an aftermarket brake booster, master cylinder on my 1940 Chevy. Front disc and rear drums, brake pedal stroke is about 6" almost to floor before brakes engage. I have bled system, adjusted pedal travel, checked and adjusted booster to master push rod, nothing helps???

Are the rear drums adjusted up tight?

What's the pedal arrangement, stock or aftermarket? My 41 chev has a bolt on aftermarket, under floor unit. Works great ( now!) But the pedal pad was originally way too high off the floor even for my size 12's.

How do the brakes actually work / feel other than the worrying pedal travel?

If it stops fine with that long pedal travel, it could be the master piston size isn't optimum for your setup...possibly too small. A larger piston will displace more volume, helping to keep the pedal off the floor, but at the expense of lower system pressure and more pedal effort. Some other system design elements that effect pedal travel, are residual valves and pedal ratio. Also possible, depending on type of front calipers, a quick-take-up type master may be needed. Good luck!

    Low drag front calipers?

Adjust rear shoes to light drag when spinning by hand. To check this, put on your parking brake a couple clicks to see if the pedal feels better

I have the same thing as OP with my recent purchase. I am going to add a stop so the pedal only moves about 1 3/4 inch to be effective

OK that will limit the stroke, but...

It’s amazing how many people don’t understand how brakes work

What is the pedal ratio? Manual uses a different ratio then power.
