I have a 34 ford frame with 4wheel disc brakes, power booster master cylinder with a 2lb. residual valve on the fromt and one on the rear. It's just a roller right now but I would like to work out all the bugs that I can before the sheet metal goes on with the brakes while it is still easy to get to. The problem is this--- when the pedal is pressed the left rear brake does not want to release as well as the right rear does. I can use a small bar to turn the axle but it will not turn freely like the right side. The frame is on jack stands with the wheels off. Is this because the residual valve is closer to this caliper? Is the residual valve not allowing the fluid to release off of the left side somehow, the right reqar seems to work fine. I've turned the proportioning valveall the way to the front but it seems to make no difference, Any ideas or help is appreciated. Thanks Mark
I'm just guessing here that the problem is in the caliper' You could try swapping left to right but a lot of work. Try exercising the stuck one with it off the rotor but still plumbed . Use a c clamp to get it to retract etc.
Try opening that bleeder just a bit, to see if it turns better. If not, I'd run it a few miles before condemning it. Discs do drag some, and can feel wrong if all is new and not seated in, especially by just turning the axle flange, and not with the tire on, for more leverage.
I would recommend removing the residual pressure check valves, being 4 wheel disc brakes you don't need line pressure to keep "shoes" neer the drums.
I'm sorry I forgot to mention that I have tried two new calipers and also swithched the rear ones side to side and it still does the same thing. I also noticed that the front is the same way, the left is not as free as the right but will turn fairly easy. Thanks Mark
