My 40 brakes are fine all wheels rotate freely when car is cool. After cruising a good 30 miles the brakes in rear smell like they are burning and the wheels will not rotate. Also even when car is cool the wheel turns hard left when i apply the brakes. I have bled the lines (little cup and tube method, fluid runs clear then after driving awhile gets more bubbles and problems) and topped off with DOT 3 fluid. Any help would be very appreciated.[IMG]

  2. Are you sure the rear brakes are not adjusted too tight?

How about the rear axle,,could it be the axle bearings? HRP

  3. How old is everything?? This sounds like it's an old (er) system that has sat for awhile and really needs to be redone.

The rubber lines can collapse internally, giving an effect not unlike a one-way valve.
Linings can be contaminated, and give all sorts of problems: grabbing, not grabbing, etc.
Older linings cane glazed, losing effectiveness.

Drum brakes can be very effective, PROVIDING that they are in good shape, linings of the newest compounds and the rest of the system as well needs to be up to par.

Betting you need a complete rebuild.

  4. I totally forgot this type of problem and have actually experienced this problem on a off topic car. HRP

A clogged compensation port in the MC can hold pressure, also.

Dual master or single? Is a brake line near the exhaust? Did you just assemble this or has it been together a while? Who adjusted them and do they have experience (required for old Ford brakes)?
