    Okay here’s one that I’ve never seen and need some help identifying. This is a drum style brake with a internal 3 piece rotor. The rotor pieces are held by a clip that is held down by two bolts. The brake pad is large and round. The brakes are electrically activated. The round brake pad is pushed up against the three piece rotor.
    Has anyone seen these? Know their name? Who made them? Crazy shit. [IMG][IMG]

    Is it for a vehicle wheel? Or it is machine or PTO application ?

    Very old electric trailer brakes. Used to be common as dog turds. Had a few old camper trailer axles around here in the 70's that had those same or very similar brakes.

    Fabber it is a trailer axle I have on a old stock car trailer I call the Hillbilly Trailer. I’m thinking it dates back to the 70’s. Any still out there?

  8. I think the rare Kinmont disc brakes worked the same way.

    That may come under the no longer serviced section.
    If it was a manufactured trailer and the manufacture is still in business you may have to go back to them and find out if they know of any available parts and who to buy them from.
    The other option is to go electric over hydraulic disk where you would have to bu a lot of pieces but it would make for a nice unit or replace what is there with electric drum brakes.

    My nephew swears by etrailer.com. Might look there.

    @David68
    Newer electric trailer brakes work on the same principle, but slightly reconfigured. There is no separate ‘rotor’, the inside if the drum, outboard of the hub, is machined smooth and is in effect, the rotor.

    That is where the electro magnet is ‘drawn’ to and the magnet/arm assembly attempts to rotate with the drum and applies the brake shoes. Same thing the OP has, ‘only different’ as they say.

    I have bought from etrailer and agree with your nephew.

    From the looks of the spindle you might be better off replacing the entire axle and brakes with a whole new assembly. I had a vintage travel trailer and since you can’t see it, I replaced the axle and brakes with modern stuff so it was safe and could be serviced anywhere we went. It wasn’t that much more than trying to repair the old crap.
