1952-59 Ford Brake Shoe Interchangability

    I'm installing disc front brakes in my '53 Ford, so I'll have all the drum brake parts left over. Can the front shoes be used at the rear? The picture in the parts book makes them look identical, but that may be misleading. It would be nice to have a good spare set of shoes.

    No. Providing you have stock shoes on the car, the front shoes are a different size (width) than the rear.

    Since posting this question, I read somewhere that the front shoes are longer, covering a greater radius, rather than wider. Comments?

    The fronts are 1/2" wider than the rears,so they won't fit the drums.Some 52-54 Fords had 11" optional rear brakes.
