A friend of mine needs his shoes re-lined for a '53 ROVER.. anyway.. does anyone know of a place that does this? Preferably local.. but being sent away is fine too if it's not too much dough..

    Thanks!

    Tiny,...
Joe just had his '40 brakes re-lined here recently by someone local,...I think up in Troy, I'll find out where and get back to you.

    maybe; where's "local"?

please don't take offense, but all the folks who have cute location descriptions in their profile leave the rest of us wondering. most of us aren't psychic. some are psycho, though.

TE that would be part of Canada wouldn't it?

  8. Find an older parts house with attached machine shop.
Most times they had a brake relining machine and relining brakes was a commonly done procedure.

Usually had a choice of lining types as well.

If they don't have a machine, they'll probably know someone who does.

An older brake shop is a good bet as well.

I relined the brakes on a 29 tudor I'm building...I bought the rivet tool from TAM's model a parts 800-272-7871. It cost about 25.00 and should be able to do just about any setup, if you can find the linings and new rivets...

You can also talk to some of the local trucking outfits and find out who does there clutch and brake linings. I took my nash brakes to a local shop that specializes in semi-truck clutch and brake repairs and they relined my brakes pretty cheap, also painted the shoes for me to.

I needed 40 Lincoln shoes relined. My local jobber parts store sent them to a national supplier some place. 2 weeks later they come back professionally done.

i wanted to get mine relined, but struck out. the local place that always did it no longer had suitable linings, only too aggressive ones, and some not aggressive enough. they found a place, but it would cost like 65 bucks or something, some of that mark up from the original place that i went to. i called kanter's and got a new set for the front of my pontiac for 50 bucks, after i sent the old ones for the core. probably not as cheap as you guys can find stuff. the bigest thing was that i didn't want to have to wait 2 or 3 weeks. hell, there's a set of linings on ebay for my car, might get them for when it needs new linings.

one thing i wonder though, and depending on the car you guys are looking for parts for, i got a set of shoes for my 93 buick rear end in the pontiac, and damned if they weren't real close to what the front shoes looked like. same diameter, etc. gotta wonder.
