I searched this question but got no good answer. I have a '46ish front axle with spindles but no brakes. I just recently purchased a set of '34 wire wheels (extremely good price almost free) but Im not sure what kind of brakes these are compatible with any thoughts? The cheaper the better cause im building this bitch on the Cheap. Thanks in advance.
I think there is an adapter ring that fits on the later drums to properly locate the earlier wires. Check the Tech archive for info on brakes.
I have no personal experience, but Street Rodder mag did a story on this in the past year or two. They did not cover discs, IIRC. The wheels require a proper surface to seat against (not flat).
Yes,you CAN.Check the street rod mags, and sites, for who makes the appropriate kits. Any that I've seen, you get your choice of 4 3/4" or 4 1/2" bolt pattern.
Not sure how you would locate the wire wheels on the rotors, or how you would get a 5 1/2" bolt pattern rotor.
If you use anything other than Mechanical brakes you're gunna have to use some kind of spacer/adaptor anyway. So use anything you want Jimmy
OK rather than make a new thread, I will post here. (See, some people DO use the search feature!) '35 wires. 9" Ford out of a '61 Ford Pick up. Since the rim hits the brake drum before it gets close to the studs I assume I will need about an inch and a half spacer (Adapter) 5X5.5 to 5X5.5. Am I right in this assumption? That looks like it will give the inside of the wheel a flat mounting surface. (I already have the small rings that weld inside the wheel.) Is my thinking sound on this and who else is running wires on something besides early brakes? Pros/cons? Thanks GV
