1952-59 Ford brakes - local sources and part numbers

Discussion in 'Off Topic Hot Rods & Customs' started by daddy_o's_diner, Jun 10, 2010.

  1. I'm getting ready to redo the front brakes on my '54 and need info on sources and part numbers.

I remember reading on here that most of the parts were available through some of the local chains. The chumlys at my locals chain stores are pretty worthless at looking up anything for the olders cars. Does anyone have part numbers for the wheel cylinders, shoes and spring kits? Locally I have an Advance Auto, Autozone, O'Riellys, and a NAPA.

Any tips or issues I should know about before I tear into the project??

    Thanks in advance.

    Dave

The Advanced Auto had shoes on the shelf for my 55 here in Des Moines

  3. Was able to get shoes and wheel cylinders ordered - will be in later today. Not luck on a hardeware kit at O'Reily's, Autozone or Advanced.

Try NAPA. They'll probably be able to get the parts, and it's doubtful you'll have to deal with any "counter Chumleys" either.

I got everything from Autozone(best prices by far!) except the hardware kits here are your part numbers:Wheel cyls:RF 33221, LF 33220, LR 33627, RR 66628 Brake shoes Front#154 Rear#55 11" (measure the rear drums a few had a 10") Front hoses both sides #70136 rear hose #88240 Do this upgrade for a dual master cyl (only $28) part# FENCO 1485 it is a bolt in swap,pm me for some how-to hints. Some NAPA stores have hardware pieces available seperately when you remove the old hardware put each location in a seperate labeled sandwich bag to match up.This is a gamble but you might get lucky since Ford used the same shoes later on take a look at these hardware kits at O'Reillys part # H7045 Front) & H7144(rear) these are all in one kits for both sides you may find a few extra parts for the self adjusters you won't need. You could buy them and take them home to compare without opening the bag and return them if they won't work,if they do you willsave some$$
