Im starting to put together my list of parts for the 41 plym. coupe. Im going to start w/ the frame and braking system.

Unfortunately there is no master cyclinder on the car.

The frame and running gear is not stock, but a 58 Dodge convertible. I would like to go w/ an under the floor type setup to keep the firewall clean...

Does anyone have any suggestions to what I could use? From what could I **** from to setup a brake pedal ***embly for this thing.

Since on the subject of suspension, is FatMan Fab. the only place that would sell dropped spindles for these things?

My plan is to drop the front, link-n-bag the rear for now; and throw on some WWW's. :)

I know it's a little too "street rodder", but i've always liked under dash M/C's. Cleans up the firewall, and saves room under the car. I think they were in 70's dodge vans? I'm not that familar with 41 plymouths, is the dash deep enough for something like that? I know older big trucks, like ford 2-tons, has a under floor MC, maybe you could snag a pedal setup from one, if you want to go that route...

  4. Why do you need a master cylinder? lWhat is ink-n-bag the rear?
Why would you keep it or change it? FOr how it looks? I am trying to picture it.

link as in 4 link 3 link etc. It's a way to hang the axel without using leafs. Bags air bags. Adjustable suspension.

I have a '37 Plymouth coupe and I used an underfloor system that I made up from a 76 Ford LTD ll . It has a nice compact 8" vac*** booster and a dual chamber m/c with a built in proportioning valve which I added residual valves to. I would check out MP Brakes web site for some excellent information on brake systems. They have a brake setup for 36 -47 Plymouths. Kugel has a behind the dash m/c setup that is similar to the 70 Dodge vans type that is spoken of in a previous post. I built a similar type for my '40 Ford Pickup which has a very shallow dash and it works fine. If your interested in either the 37 Ply or 40 PU brake system I can pop you a few pictures to help you on your way. Both vehicles have Mustang ll front suspensions on them with Granada rotors, 78 Camaro calipers and brake hoses running from the LTD ll master cylinder and boosters. Using the Granada rotors allowed me to use Ford or Chryco rims on either because they're the same bolt pattern.

Plydo in WV (304)475-3245 has the under floor master cylinder and pedal ***y. They also carry Fatman dropped uprights, or you can go direct to Fatman @704-545-0369. For the disc brakes, see either Plydo or ECI @ (860) 872-7046. The ECI kit is nicer and easier, but more $. Ya still gets whatcha pay for.

You could also use Fatman's front stub and get all new style stuff. It's more money but way easier, and power steering is a piece of cake then, on a suspension much more familiar to the average alignment shop than the '41 stuff. Good luck!

For my 38 Chrysler I got a disc adapter kit for the OE spindles from "Olddaddy" here on the HAMB. Works fine and the price was friendly. I've got an S-10 master/booster setup, but it's on the firewall so that's no help for you:

Lotsa room under the dash though, depending what else you're gonna put under there.

    Hey Norm,

Are you buildin' this for yourself or spendin' someone else's money?
I know this is gonna sound kinda hillbilly and all, but you may wanna
look at a frame clip or a whole other frame completly. Have you
penciled out all that "street rodder hardware" Tall coin fast! I'd be
lookin at maybe a 80's90's Dodge Dakota . It's got your brakes,
rack, and most of the hardware and a frame up to handlin' a V8.
Yeah, you could move the master and pitch the rack and pinion if
that won't p*** muster, but that street rod "stuff" is probably more
money than you'll get back outa a Mopar anytime soon.
    Jus'a dumb thought!

  10. I think Norm had this car three cars ago. That as 2 1/2 years ago. He's on to better rides now.
