2 questions. i know i havent been on at all since i joined. it just a little intimidating when i get a reply in a couple of minutes, not that there is anything wrong with that. first off i bought some rusty sprint headers and i am sandblasting them. they are pitted, but not all the way through, almost 1/2 crhome 1/2 rust. could i let them rust back? if not how do i get them copper or brass coated? i think i saw someone with copper coated headers on this forum. second, where does everyone get their model T radiators for SB chevy's cheap?
Any plating company. They will take a look at them and tell you if it's possible. With a lot of pitting, you're going to have a lot of labor cost involved, and that's what costs the most in plating shops. Endless hours of polishing. When I was doing my headers I didn't even consider plating. I wanted a rough look, but easy to clean, so I went with a ceramic coating inside and out. I think you can get that in just about any color you want. Heat will kind of distort and ruin the plated finish anyway. I brought a couple of grill pieces to the chrome shop, and they have a technique where they put copper into the pits, and then the copper plating, followed by nickle, and then chrome looks perfectly smooth and show quality. I decided to look for some better candidates because my heart skipped a beat when he gave me the estimate (I ain't Jay Leno, sorry)...
The radiator for a '64-'66 Ford Mustang will work. I have seen it done and you can get one at a good auto parts store for less than $300. Of course you'll have to explore your options for hoses. This will also allow you to use your imagination when it comes to a grille shell too. Use a grille shell. The Mustang radiator will look like crap on a T bucket without one. Hope this helps.
first ceramics look flat right? second i have an orignal T short grille and i brought a repro motometer. will it cost me $300 including getting alll the inlets moved and is it possible to put a neck on top and use the motometer?
