Will Copper Wire do bad things under paint like Br*** if you use it to braze a body seam? No flux will be used. I did some tests with a Henrob and it sure works nice! Just would not want it to mess up my paint down the road. Jdee
The guy I got the Torch from said I would not need any Flux and could join a few different metals with copper. Just tried some Thin steel 20 gauge with some old soild house wire from the junk pile, it seems to work real good. Fills real fast. Its all new to me, this welding stuff Jdee
How do you like using that Henrob? My dad has one and with my limited use on it, the thing is amazing.
Brazing rods are usually Bronze, which is an alloy of Copper and Br***. JDee: do some research for the "electromotive scale".It deals with corossion between dissimilar metals. Different metals are given values,Gold is at the top of the scale,Lead is at the bottom. The further apart the values are between 2 metal, the more likely you will have corossion.
Its real new to me, all I've done is mig stuff till now. But I wish I had got the Henrob first. A little more expensive but well worth it I think. The welds look better than mig and I think Im getting better welds also , They seem stronger to me With a mig I'm always afraid Of cold welds so I blow holes in everything I'm not good at any one of them yet. But I'm not welding frames,,, Mostly sheet metal Top chop and Interior junk.. on my Buick.. Jdee
Ok Ian I'll check that out Thanks. Hey I did not try that Table Top Epoxy stuff yet. To busy doing everone elses stuff to play Jdee
I don't know about thick stuff yet, But I know Some of the people here are using them. Just found this page http://www.eaa1000.av.org/technicl/corrosion/galvanic.htm seems like just copper would be better than br*** and copper I see lead is right next to steel I see what you mean now, thanks Jdee
i bought a henrob at hershey last year...i love the thing...all i have is the henrob and a tig...i could see where a mig would come in handy but those 2 really get done what i need....the henrob is great...ive cut stuff about 3/4 inch thick with a very thin line...if you were steady you could almost cut threads on a gear with the thing..its great....i bought it instead of a plasma cutter and it does the same job just slower...it welds great too...just the way you hold it takes a bit of getting used to...i know this isn;t a post about it but i thought id mention anyways
I was thinking I get a better looking seam. I can't get at the spot to good to grind it smooth. Its a lip inside the trunk. They made a lot of joints with lead It looks like on my car, Just thought if I could flow some copper in it would look good and be strong, and cheap cuz I got the wire Jdee
The factory seams were welded, then smoothed with Lead. Now they use Bronze. You could ask here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/metalshapers/ Someone should know.
