Hot Rods Bringing my 39 back to life

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Nailhead Jason, May 8, 2016.

  1. Good looking car Jason!! Stance and rake right on time! What size rims and tires on the front? Any problems with tire rub on the fenders? I'm getting ready to drop my 39, so I want to make sure I do all the right things!

    Thanks Man!

NO tire rub whatsoever. the set up on mine is a dropped and narrowed 33 to 36 front axle using a 36 front wishbone with a Posie's reversed eye front spring. The front axle was dropped by Jack Fuller in Norfolk, it has a total of about 4 3/4 inches of dropped and narrowed in the drop process about an inch on each side, thats how you get the extra fender clearance. I used the earlier 33 to 36 axle and 36 wishbone to be able to get more drop out of the axle than i would have with a 37 to 39 axle. and still be able to bolt it all in without splitting the wishbone. The front wheels are new from Wheel Smith 15X5's with 5.60 X 15 bias Plys and the rear are the same wheels with L78 Coker white walls. The rear spring is a Posie's Reversed eye spring mounted to a 9 Inch on spring brackets that drop it 2 inches. You can get the same stance buy using a Posies #R40L rear spring and 41 shackles to get the same drop, that what was on here before i swapped the banjo out.
If you in Fred, im only about 30 min from you, my shop is in Caroline and i live in Ashland. Send me a PM and ill get you my Cell number if you want to come see it in person or just want to head to the Shop!

  3. My car is a 39 Deluxe Coupe. I have a 33-36 front axle and wishbone down at Jack Fuller's now that he's dropping for me. On the front I hope to use a Posie's reversed eye front spring and stock 40 Ford rims - 4"x16" with 550R16 tires. I hope I can pull it off without any tire rub? I also plan to use the Posies #R40L rear spring on the stock banjo in the rear, with 40 Ford rims - 4"x16" with 700R16 tires. Would definitely like to get with you sometime soon. Thanks Jason, Greatly Appreciated!!

with an axle from Jack and those front tires you will be in the clear! I also have the reverse eye Posies front spring and it rides great. While you are doing the front end, I would highly recommend a front sway bar kit from Pete and Jakes. it really is the single best improvement on my sedan's suspension, a night and day difference in handling. Just make sure and get one for a 35 36 since that is the wishbone you are using.

Haven’t done much to the 39 lately. My father in laws health went down hill fast and I spent the last year getting his 66 barracuda back together and driving agin so he could see it and ride in it one more time. Unfortunately he didn’t make the ride but he did see it just days before he p***ed.

Sorry man. Hard to lose our parents. I'm glad he got to see the car again.

I started with this. It had been parked in the same shed since 1989.

A little over a year later with all the structural rust and floors repaired I slammed a used cleaned up 360 and the 727 he had rebuilt in 1985 in it. Swapped in an 8 inch mustang rear, swapped to later A body discs on the front to get the regular ford mopar pattern, added torque thrusts and replaced everything that was wore out or missing and got it driving. Here is how it looks today. IMG_9885.jpeg IMG_9909.jpeg IMG_9914.jpeg

I was able to tow it from Virginia to his house in Alabama for him to see it and hopefully ride in it. But he just didn’t have it in him to get out into the car. But he saw and heard it drive right up to his door. I’ll continue the build on it for him just as he would have wanted it to be. It will be well received with the rest of the fleet. I did manage to get the 39 and my son Jake in my Dads roadster that is now his roadster up to TROG this year. As always great time and I took almost no pictures. But at least I got a few minutes of catching up with friends I don’t normally see. Even got to ride the Ferry over with my Club Brother @hotrodderhaag and his crew of misfits piloting some of the Bones cars.
