  2. Subscribed to Car & Driver for several years back when it was a great magazine. Yate's articles are part of what made it so.

Funny how times have changed. I used to get Hot Rod, Car & Driver, Cars & Parts, Popular Mechanics, Scientific American and Popular Science. Now I don't subscribe to any magazines and just read the HAMB and various other forums.

Sorry to hear that Mr. Yates is experiencing what Ronald Reagan called "the long goodbye".

I too have seen it up close and personal and it broke my heart.

I can remember as a teen in the 80's and early 90's getting excited arountd the first of the month waiting for the new issue of C&D to arrive in the mailbox. Yates column was the first thing I usually read. Really one of a kind guy. A few years later got to meet him at a rest stop on I-81 in SW Virginia as he and some of the other guys were doing a long distance test drive with some new (forgettable) cars. Was really gracious and nice to me when I said hi. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family Mr. Yates.

    Brock Yates passed away today.

I started reading Car & Driver in the late 60's. As a kid, I was a hot rod guy but liked all kinds of cars and my dad had a couple sports cars. The magazine back in those days was very entertaining and original. Great road tests, adventures and info, all under Yates hand. A big influence to me.

    RIP Mr. Yates.
