SO its Friday afternoon and I'm on my way to Vegas from LA with my girl. It's the first real road trip in the new (to me) '56 Olds. I know the trans was leaking a little, but I stopped regularly and checked/filled it, so it seemed fine. We hit some traffic coming up to Baker (about 100 miles from Vegas) and the trans starts howling a bit. Pull over in Baker up to the fillin' station and park. Right then smoke pours from the hood. I open her up and the wiring harness is sizzling, little flames popping up here and there. I pop the trunk, grab some pliers and disconnect the battery. What the hell? Looks like I just got hit with a 'I'm not ready for a road trip' vibe from Marlene (yeah, I just named her). I called triple A and had them tow it back to LA ($478). Then we hop on a Greyhound to Vegas. Didn't win, almost got arrested in a club, and my chick's friends were lame. I started to rewire the engine compartment today, and at least it didn't short anything under the dash (i THINK!). Now I'll probably have to pull the tranny and have it gone through. I guess it could have been worse, eh? PS Anyone know a good Jetaway Hydramatic specialist near LA?
