Just had to have my dad tow me back home. luckily i wasnt far from home. It just hurt like hell to see that bowtie in front of me towing the ford home. She acted like it was getting no fuel. just died out. got fire and the mechanical fuel pump is working. getting fuel all the way to the carb, but nothing squriting out. the truck has been sitting for a few months. it ran great yesterday, im guessing some trash broke loose and clogged something up. its a edlebrock 600, Im gonna pull it off and clean it out.
blow your lines backwards into the tank as well, may have more waiting in there for you, then run some Seafoam through there, A LOT, like a whole can in a half tank of gas, that should loosen anything else up. Have some new fuel filters on hand. And yes, anytime a Ford has to get towed by a Chevy, God is shaking his head in disgust. Great looking truck BTW
Chevy's do a great job towing Ford's. Sounds like the needle valve in the carb is stuck. Tap on the carb LIGHTLY and see if it will take fuel then....
Hey don't feel to bad I just gernaded my 350 (chevy) in my truck 3 hours from home and I'm still stuck it is my only chevy I mean was.....
At least your Dad has an American vehicle. Would hurt even more to be towed home by a Toyota, wouldn't it? Good looking truck BTW.
Obvious solution, as you've experienced the bowtie solution first hand, would be to transplant one under your hood. The result will be a win/win. You get a reliable means of powering your car and some deserving soul gets an anchor for his boat. I can only imagine the **** storm that last statment will generate. In my defense I REALLY like flatheads Frank
be glad dad has that sbc to tow you home ! nice truck btw what motor are you running in it? i always like them pick-ups with y-block in them
Towed by a Chevy Could of been worse. Wait, no it couldn't have. A real Ford guy would have pushed it before letting that disgrace happen. Please turn in your man card.
If you plan to run Seafoam through it as suggested by someone else, you may not want to do it if your tank has never been resealed. If there's any rust at all in that tank, Seafoam will break it all loose and you'll have problems until you take it off and have it cleaned and resealed. I did this to my old car and that stuff ate all the rust/broke it loose and made it real fine - looked like muddy water. It clogged everything up from the tank to the carburetor and caused me problems for almost a year. Don't get me wrong though, that stuff is great, but in an old tank it can cause problems.
the tank is a new one for a mustang mounted between the frame rails. the fuel filter was clean as a whistle when i pulled it off. Im thinking its just the carburetor. Im gonna pull it off this weekend and check it out
I agree, that just isn't right!!!!! A Chevy pulling a Ford home LOL!!! I have a hat in my shop that says" Friends don't let friends drive Chevys" LOL!!!!
i have a wall in my garage that says "friends don't let friends drive FORDS" not really but i might after this weekend after reading this
Back in 78' I towed a buddys 55 chevy home after a blown ujoint with my dads 71 toyota hi-lux pick up. I gave him some serouis **** over that as I towed him home more that once, HAHAHAHA
