I have a 55 fairlane with a working speedo but the odometer doesnt work. I figure its not the speedo cable since thats working. Any ideas on the problem/fix. New gear for the gauge??

Several internal problems could be the cause. The counter weight inside has a gear like a clock to drive the odometer. You might remove the speedo head and put some oil in the felt cup on the shaft. Most likely it will need a speedo repair man.

There is a gear that runs the odometer seperate from the speedometer. On my 63 Ranchero that gear is plastic and one of the little tabs that it spins on broke off. I don't know if yours would be plastic but I'm guessing it is a similar issue.

The odometer carrier gear has likely failed or the worm gears are completely stripped. Sometimes odometers lock up and shear an internal carrier gear. Is the odometer wheel alignment straight?
