If he's happy with a 500.00 refund, I'd counter offer at 750.00 and tell him "Hey, **** happens". I always make better than good when I **** up. It just makes me feel good. If he's stand up he'll split the difference. If he's a greedy *******, my offer makes me feel even better.

If he decides he can't use the block he still has the crank, rods, heads and peripherals, not to mention the intake. So he's not totally out. But it will be a tough negotiation to arrive at a fair refund. I'm sure he thinks he should get it all for free but you sent him pictures, right? So if he didn't look closely (I have my eagle eyed wife look for me) then he has to share part of the blame. Don't screw yourself protecting your reputation - you're both disappointed in the transaction. Good luck.
