Building another deuce roadster with Brookville body. Is anyone else having trouble We've tried original lower Stanchions, the reproduction Wescott br*** lower stanchions and now the new R S stainless lowerrs. Nothing works. Can't get the R S chromes 3 inch frame into the hole? Suggestins.?
I have an early Brookville body and never had a problem. I've used original and aftermarket over the years. Check with Brookville!
Mine has bronze stanchions, Brookville posts and Trautwein 3” chopped frame. Went together OK, only needs some minor adjusting of the frame pivot studs to center the frame between the posts. Unfortunately still in storage from my move.
I've done a dozen + Brookville deuce roadsters and have never experienced this much trouble fitting the windshield.
That's the thing. If it were anyone else posting this, I would suggest asking YOU! If this one is making you post, I'd guess it's a case of the jigs and tolerances wandering off spec. Have you fit anything else to this body?
Sheet metal is done and ready for paint. Check my thread about the stretched p***enger compartment deuce roadster. Yesterday I contacted a friend in Minnesota who has done a lot of 32's and he tto was having fit problems with his windshield to a Brookville roadster body. We'll get it figured out but it's frustrating?.
Darn, sorry about that, @krylon32 ! I get the feeling the next one (if there is one) will get a different order of operations and more QC. I haven't dug into that thread, I am not a 32 roadster guy. Too tall and penniless. Wealth might fix both, but by then I'd have my eye on even loftier goals! Heresy I know, the 32 is top dog. I dig Model 40s more. Edit, went thru the post. Top notch work! Perhaps since you have been a regular customer you might call them direct tomorrow and have them check their QC on this.
Of all the folks I watch on here, and listen to, YOU would be who I'd ask. My suggestion, check another car. I'd take a profile gauge along and compare your cowl/fit area to that one. I'll go out on a limb and say that you could access another Deuce roadster easier than most anyone. I smell a body die issue. The compound curve where all of that fits up could be to max limit in both directions on 1 surface. I'm making zero ***umptions here about you or your build quality, well except that I'm sure there's not much better or as experienced. Last thought as I tap this out, whats the chances that the issue is "down the line" from what you're doing? Dips too far from dash edge to hood? Not enough curve from left to right? Or too much? Raw thoughts...
My friend from Minn just sent me a message that he and his body guy have decided to cut the cowl top, reshape it to fit, re weld, metal finish and move on. Something I've never had to do? We'll see where this goes.
So is it the arch where the stanchions go or the whole arch from left to right? Combination? Would it be easier to make a lower windshield channel than to re-skin the cowl top? I know you don't do pictures. And I'll also add that sometimes a walk away for a day or 2 gives us old bastids fresh eyes and we see something we didn't.
Have you talked with Kenny he usually answers out side of work. or do you feel it's not a issue before mods were done?
@theHIGHLANDER From the thread. Doesn't show the issue, just the mockup. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...ment-deuce-roadster-the-build-thread.1344173/ There are more pics there.
Mike is trap shooting with his grandson this weekend and I'm in Omaha till late Tuesday for my wife's treatments so he'll start over Monday. I'll go back later in the week after the buyer picks up my Henry roadster. Eddy, we've done nothing to the cowl top in the windshield area. The only mods were to the rear corners which didn't effect the windshield area.
From your photos I can tell your guy knows his way around metal. He can probably cut and fit the sheetmetal quicker and cheaper than reworking and rechroming the stanchions or frame.
I bought a Brookville roadster body in 2000 at the LARS. Body #248. With very minor fitting the lower stanchions fit tight to the sheetmetal. Other than tightening up the reveal lines to sharpen them everything fit as expected. The pointer on the lower stanchion should align with the bump on the cowel. In the photo above posted by RodStRace there is a severe misalingment. Looks like a Brookville issue.
I'm just spit balling here but as long as Brookville as been reproducing the Deuce body should the molds experiencing some wear in the cowl area. I've only had one Roadster, I used a Westcott body and I used a original set of Henry Ford windshield Stanchions and they fit like a glove, but this was more than 20 years ago. HRP
