I bought this slightly rusted '48 Ford F1 here in Central Texas, and hauled it home yesterday. No tranny or engine, but overall alot of pretty straight tin for a mere $200. I already have an F5, so I'm hoping I'm can combine the good parts from each vehicle and make one nice truck. I'll try to load a picture.
Pretty strait lookin' truck for being 60 years old, I am building a 48' F3 myself. Doesn't the F-5 have the same cab, hood, etc? I think Rand Man is right about he larger flathead. Keep us posted.
I wasn't aware that they put a 337 in these trucks, but you may be right. All literature I've found just shows a 239 cu in 100 hp engine as standard for these trucks in this year range. As far as what body parts interchange, I haven't actually compared the two trucks (F1 and F5) side by side yet. I've been told that the only differences were that the larger trucks had bigger fenders. I should be able to confirm the similarities and differences soon though, as I plan to bring the F5 over and sit it beside the F1 very soon. That's for the posts. It's good to know that there are others here who are interested in these 'F' trucks, too.
The cabs are the same. the fenders are different. The 337 flatheads were only put into F-7 and F-8 trucks and big Lincoln cars. Check out mine here http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=175984 and here http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=185525
I appreciate the feedback. It's kinda cool to know there are others out there who are interested in the Ford F1 trucks, too. I'd really like to see some good pictures of any you have.... whatever the condition (shiny or rusty).
