I just got a Bubba's chevy to Ford Flathead Dizzy for a 1949-53 flathead. What is the best way to drop it in on one or just before one as the markings are 4 degrees advance and not TDC on the balancer? <!-- / message -->

  2. I just did this last night and dropped it in on one, it fired off within a revolution and I adjusted it from there very little. Will have to time appropriately once in the car though.

Roll the motor over until you are on top dead center on # 1 on the compression stroke.. Pull off the cap and observe where the rotor ****on is pointed .loosen the dizzy, lift it up until the rotor stops moving make a note of that location and mark it. Continu and remove dizzy, take cap off bubba dizzy put hold down plate facing the cyl head ,turn the rotor until it matches where the old one pointed ,ease it down into the dizzy hole until it contacts the cam gear ,it will rotate in reverce as it was pulled out .attach hold down bolt, install bubba cap and rewire as per firing order specs .snug hold down lightly start engine and set the timing with a timing lite, set it with the pointer at the mark on pulley....caution make sure the engine is ideling below 600 rpm so the advance has not started to move so the marks will be rite.thats it

I hope you got a sbc/flathead distributor with vacuum advance. it is good for 2-3 miles per gallon. If not, you can easily add it. hook it up to manifold vacuum (not the port on the back of a Ford 94 carb.), if equipped...jack

Remember NUMBER ONE is the first cylinder at the front on the P***ENGER side on the flatheads.
