Mine should hit the floor in about a week just to see how it sits. then back up on the horses to check out engine mounting etc. Body panels soon also..its getting kind of exciting now...
Bubba:: Are you sure we don't live next door to each other..I was checking out the pics up a ways on the board, And I found that your roll cage and mine are almost identical...Any how, If I can figger a way to post pics of the car I will. The car is going to the CHHR reunion for display. And maybe an easy putt down the track with a late model dragster along side.. Fun Time!!
Could be , i used to spend some time in La Mirada ( I was a Allen Test products Trainer and did cl***es there) I liked Knotts Berry farm , Huntington beach etc. Maybe if this damn snow keeps up i could come out and help with your dragster?? I am in Indianapolis Indiana. pretty cold here now.
I took some shots tonight. If Randy will post them for me that would be cool.. Randy,PM me your addy.
We are coming to get ya Hiney...... What do you think? Move the driver in front of the axle, add some old distributors and carbs ?? Bubba
I'm not Hiney(and damn sure dont want to be)but's that is one cool car. We saw it run I think at Indy last year, sure has a sweet sound.
That is the Kay Sissel-Mike Kirby car that runs in the NE1 cl*** (7.50 index) That is also part of the "T"Pot.and the other Mike Kirby roadster, Both run in the 9.60 index. All their cars are really nice. They run with us at the ANRA events....
Another update. The hamster is home and ready to be taken apart and painted. Color will be a secret for a day or two. Got some clutch work to do and a bug or two in the carbs. Accell pumps didnt seem to work like they should when we lit the engine last week or so. We are on a two week deadline for the world of wheels car show in Indianapolis. It will be there finished or not. Would love to fire it up in the building once just for grins.. Thats me in the car with "Grumpy" one of the crew. Check out the final ( i hope ) stance.
Bubba,, Are those front wheels the english Anglia wheels??? I have a set of Harley rims laced to a hub for early Ford spindles. Look quite a bit alike. I was going to take the spoke wheels off my altered and put them on the HA/GR, then put front-runners on the altered. But I just might use the harley wheels
English Anglia is close on the wheels. The wheels and front axle, springs and hubs are from a 1932 Morris. Morris made a scaled sown 32 Ford style sedan in 1932-1933. The picture below is a 1933. Pretty cool stuff the ch***is ( i bought a rolling ch***is at a swap meet a few years ago- it was cheap and had tons of cool parts ) used a aluminum rear end third member, fluid shocks on all four courners and tranferse spring front and rear. It also had new sears allstate tires. I still have the little differential and springs if any one can figure a need for it. We used the entire front end and springs. Cliff ( The dog catcher) has the dragster frame as we stripped it down today and trailered the ch***is to him. Knowing him, it may be done tomorrow sometime. He came over and helped us take it apart, only took a few minutes. The pic shows Cliff hard at work. The trans tunnel, sides, cowl and belly pan all are pretty easy to get off with the quick release fastners. Other than a little clutch final fitting and some engine work we should have it ready for the Indy world of wheels. In Two weeks.
great progress bubba, love the updates! sometime soon ill be able to show progress ... gotta make a livin first.
Except that you probably got the last set of wheels in the entire US of A, I wouldn't mind getting my hands on a set with hubs. I have some reason to believe that the hubs may fit Anglia spindles. Dream on.
Well as of yesterday, the car is setting there waiting for the engine and trans. The front end is complete now, Steering is operable, The rearend is mounted, Master cylinder is on and brake handle hooked up. I will be tearing the rear apart to install the spool this next week. And installing the brake lines. Since I'm the only one working on the car it takes a bit longer. Plus working on the altered for the March Meet...
A small update from sat: Tom at Culbersons Customs had made me a steering wheel from s****s of steel and 29 Sedanman had volunteered to make up some wood handles . WOW is all i can say!!! Looks super. After seeing what these wheels have sold for on ebay we decided to just make it it . What ya think???? Or i could go with the story about how uncle Otis brought this home from the war out of a B-59 ??? I like that one, thats the one i will use on Hiney ????
Bubba, We were actually going to us the steering wheel/yoke??? out of a B-24 on our car but it was a little tight around our knees so we couldn't use it. It was cool......had a ****on on top of the right hand grip that was to drop the bombs, but it would work great for our nitrous system. Now I have to find somewhere to hide the damn nitrous switch so you guys won't see it. Ron
Ron, use your head! I'm putting the nitrous bottle and switch in my fire suit, that way none of the tech guys will ever catch it!
Ha Ha I saw that done at Bonneville with a guy on a cycle. He got caught and was told never to come back.
A UPDATE: We have had the car back from the painter most of the week and it looks really good. Decided the aluminum body is too nice to paint Mikes been polishing on it most of the week Rear brakes are done ( Thanks to Wally) . We adjusted the clutch ( had to do some machine work on the throw out etc) using a chevy flywheel ( redrilled for the GMC) and a early ford clutch and pressure plate. Gas tank is mounted as well as all the wheels, Just decided this afternoon to use moon caps front and rear, they look really good and Tuck next door made us some neat clamps to hold the front moons on the wires. Wally, 29 Sedanman and i put the engine in the ch***is before i left work and Little Bill ( the pinstriper) is coming tomorrow for lettering etc. The new gear reduction starter turns the jimmy over pretty well and i had to light it with carb cleaner just to hear it run through the new headers. I have a lot of pics and just havent had time to post them , maybe tomorrow sometime. Shes a beauty!!! Appears as if all issues have been resolved and all parts sem to function together well. I still have some carb work to do with some internal p***ages etc as both accel pumps dont appear to be working well. Been a blast , looking forward to the summer races etc.
I heard the beast fire up yesterday. WOW!!! IT sounds Awesome. I feel sorry for those narrow little tires!
