Buddy Holly and The Winter of 1958-59 as told by Dion

Discussion in 'The Antiquated' started by Scotch Buzzard King, Oct 27, 2022.

  1. A really good buddy of mine turned me on to this last Saturday, and I want to p*** it forward.

Dion Dimucci of Dion and The Belmonts took time to reflect on the time he spent with Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. Richardson (The Big Bopper) the winter of 1958-59. Dion tells you things you've never heard of before from his first hand account of what actually happened during the Winter Dance Party tour.

From the first time he met Buddy Holly to their final conversation, Dion tells it all here:

Thanks for this, I was only 11 in '59, but I remember when it hit the news. Huge, Buddy Holly and Dion, fan.

My wife and I visited the Surf Ballroom and the crash site on one of our cross country tours ...... it was a very touching and sad time.
Such a tragic loss of lives.

  7. The main thing that impresses me so much about Dion's recollection of the Winter Dance Party tour is how Dion remembers absolutely every detail up until the accident. After the crash, Dion doesn't remember everything as clearly.

Anyone who has ever dealt with a tragedy understands exactly how he felt.
