B*** MAN i actually meant the same doctor from the same hospital ,if you want to get that exact, and looking at it the way you are i am sure there was not a wallmart or marsha sharp freeway when he was born. thank you for the correction
some news i heard thursday. from a good source. On the 2nd restoration the car was re bodied, due to rust and other body problems, but a many of the original parts and the frame had been restored and put back on the car. when maria b.f.b ellana found out about that, and she was not offered what she allways feels is her portion, she got a hold of B.J. and told them who knows what. and i am sure the folks at B.J. did not want to put up with that b_ t _ h. so they refused the entry. i think the car was in the center fold of the original BJ book that went out , hell i would like to have one of those. it may be worth something one day. never the less, BILL,C. and JIMMY,D. did a beautiful job on the 2nd. restoration. and i honestly think with as many cars that are rebodied in this day and time bill c never thought twice about it since the majority of the car was correct. THEY HAVE THE COPY OF THE ***LE, THE CANCELLED CHECK AND SEVERAL OTHER ARTICLES THAT WENT WITH THE CAR IF IT WAS TO SALE AT THE JACKSON.
If a car is "rebodied", exactly how is the "majority of the car" correct. I'd say, roughly 50% is not correct, and that while patching the old one up may have been more work, a car with this history ( if true) may have deserved the extra work.
I thought Peggy said she use to ride around with them in the car? Is she shady too? Maybe she doesn't remember right and it was an Olds!! Lippy
Thanks for that info Buddy. I can certainly see that being the reason for it being pulled. (M.E.H) getting involved.
Speaking to someone about this he said that Bill Griggs threw the monkey wrench into the sale. Supposedly Griggs provided some info that Clements wasn't able to clear up. Just what I was told.
The car will sell either way I would think...Weather it be through B.J or some other auction or private sale.....
Well the Barett Jackson just took it off the block because it can't be verified. Seems like the vin has been altered.
as far as I'm concerned, if you 'rebody' a car, its not the same car. If they wanted to keep it original they would have had to repace all the damaged panels while at least keeping the shell that the vin plate is on. Still sounds pretty fishy to me.
Rebody and engine (block or complete) changes....not a problem? How about this....I have George Washington's hatchet. The very one he chopped down that cherry tree. In excellent condition. It's had three new heads and eight new handles. Any offers?
I just found this on EBay and thought id bring it to the top....http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chev...423QQitemZ260791276579QQptZUSQ5fCarsQ5fTrucks
I heard in either 07 or 08, his car was sent to Barrett-Jackson, but since it wasn't authenticated, it couldn't be sold.
It was just a special on TV that i recorded about Celeberity Cars and it really sounded like a scam cause the guy got all jacked up about the 'hype' of the car....If you read all the way through the Ebay posting where the questions are somebody asked about it and he kind of beat around the bush about the facts..I dunno, but the car turned out amazing in my opinion and id love to know what the reserve is seeing its already hit in the 6 figures..
I'll bump this back up due to the recent ebay ad as mentioned above. The car ended at $225,600 without meeting the reserve. I didn't know Bill Griggs, THE #1 Holly historian p***ed away this past March. I ran across one of his published articles that really put things into perspective. I had my doubts about the car but this really sets the record straight. Take the time to read this article if you're curious: http://www.rockin50s.com/car/1.html
Wow, if Bill Clements actually admitted it was a fake in 2000, why would they still claim it's real now?
Facts: When Bill Clements bought the vehicle it did not have a VIN tag. He took the word of the seller that it had been Holly's car. (Early 80"s) ONLY after getting the VIN from Bill Griggs (RIP) that it became the "Holly" car. Bill Griggs inspected the car and noted that the VIN tag was a glued on piece of aluminum and not a welded on SS stamping. Bill Clements told everyone that he had the Holly car and received free parts and labor to "restore" it. No images of the restoration have come to light. During a second restoration the body shop noticed two VIN stampings on the frame, however those photos have been lost..... The vehicle was rebodied at this time due to the damages from the original accident and display. The time line of events do not add up.....the shop owner stated the vehicle was put behind his shop in late 59. There are Holley family movies showing the car in the house garage in mid 1960 The vehile was never shown to the Texas DMV to verify the VIN In 2000 Bill Griggs wrote in his newsletter that the vehicle was not Buddy Holly's and staked his job on it........
Hi Tony; go googling,... "barrett jackson buddy holly". A couple of weeks ago B/J took Bill Clement's "Buddy Holly" car OUT of the auction for "lack of authenticity".
I've been curious too, there is a rare photo floating around that I've seen with Buddy and J.I. Allison (drummer) posing for a pic with the black and white Olds in the background.
