  1. Looking good!
What's the plan? Prue racecar? What era are you looking towards? Mid 50s, Late 50s early 60s?

I know you're a stickler like me for period correctness, I have a 1959 N.H.R.A rule book if you need cl*** rules. (Engine set back, weight to cubic inch etc.)

Thanks Robert. Ive been keeping the parts including speed equipment to a late 50s cutoff though with the exception of the vertex mag I believe everything is like 1950 and earlier on the car. Im dancing the delicate dance of trying to comply with the current IHRA rule book and build a period 50s altered. Engine setback for the period is a question. Modern rules about how far back I can move the seat will restrict engine setback to a point but id still like to know the max that was allowed in 59. Im trying to shove it as far into the cowl as I can.

  12. I don't want to hijack Adam's thread.

I don't have the full history of that car, but running dual rear wheels was not uncommon. Racing tires weren't everywhere and were very expensive.

It was a low dollar way to put more tire on the ground.

Outlaw Stock car racers in the early days did it as well but only on the right rear. Snow tires where also used because of the softer rubber compounds and aggressive tread .

Many early oval racings rule books read "No dual rear wheels". Many entry level cl***es today that require D.O.T. street tires outlaw the use of snow tires.

If I'm remembering correctly engine set back for an altered in 63 was 25% and a g***er was 10%. I have no idea what it was in 59

Just wanted to update everyone on the car. Parts delays have been murder but I'm plugging away. Just submitted my application to The Race of Gentlemen so we shall see how that goes. The car is basically together and the block is off to tje machine shop.

Message_1656603692029.jpg The interior is further along than these pics. I know cowl steering is a hotbed topic on this forum but this car will never see the street. Race only. I am working on mellowing out that angle a bit. When the Blower finally arrives you gotta mock it up right?? Will be topped with 4 new stromberg. If anyone has a Hilborne for a 471 for sale let me know please.

Hope to see everyone at Pinetree Jamboree the Tornadoes Car club awesome event in Maine and at Vintage Eliminater in PA later this year

Traditional hot rods would utilize a straight tip screw driver rather the Phillips

    Actually:

Henry Frank Phillips (June 4, 1889 – April 13, 1958) was an American businessman from Portland, Oregon. The Phillips-head ("crosshead") screw and screwdriver are named after him.[1]

The importance of the crosshead screw design lies in its self-centering property, useful on automated production lines that use powered screwdrivers.[2] Phillips' major contribution was in driving the crosshead concept forward to the point where it was adopted by screwmakers and automobile companies. The credited inventor of the Phillips screw was John P. Thompson who, in 1932, patented (#1,908,080) a recessed cruciform screw and in 1933, a screwdriver for it.
