Just got a report that the boys slammed a new 350 into the Crosley yesterday and are gettin ready to breath fire!!!--or maybe just spit a few sparks

  5. Ardyboy;
Would that be a NEW motor, or new to them?..LOL

Real glad to see the "Rodfathers" still building stuff.
Most car groups just sit around and talk about it..
    These guys do it !!!

Our fellow Rodfather, ardyboy has stepped up "a lot" on this project too. This is what is so great about our club and from what I've seen most other clubs out there. Car guys and girls are a rare breed...............

OK, OK , I know we were supposed to be racing this year but at least I drove it down the road then we replaced the motor. Thanks to all that helped with parts and labour. The car is now on a trailer and covered for a while. We need a change so we are helping out a fellow Rodfather with his new project( a '66 Barracuda). Making an automatic a 4 speed and a 360. Exhaust manifolds will be fun with the placement of the steering box. Anyone out there have a cheap solution? Already had to change the oil pan.
Plan on getting back to the Crosley late January or February. Have to work in getting some progress on the corvette project sometime.
We WILL be racing next year. I hope.
TOO many projects and friends. Wouldn't have it any other way.

Forgot to mention the fun we had with the shifter. I stepped up and actually paid money for a NEW B&M Pro Stick shifter. After a week of fighting with it to work it was determined there was a problem with the length of the cable. Not the proper one or something. Shifter kit was replaced with a new one. Had it all lined up to go through all the gears etc. when with one last test shift the cable fell apart. The crimping let go. Took it back and got my money back. So much for brand new. We were then blessed with our favourite kind of part. A free one was donated to the project. Thanks Opie. This one with a few adjustments worked right away. Can't wait to get back at it.

I wouldn't say cheap, but then sometimes you pay for quality it's all subjective.

Probably the very nicest headers you will find for the 360 A body are from Tube Technologies. They are ch***is exit headers and really fit nice.

These guys know what they are doing.

Finally we are back at it. The barracuda is out of the garage. Finished up with the C-Cab and the snow has melted enough to get the Crosley in. We are not that far away from completion-I hope. Only have the rest of it to do.

it's about time. spending the winter thinking about drinking is no way to go through life. It would be nice to see real progress when I get home at the end of the month.

Progress is being made. The seat is bolted down and the seat belts in. Front windshield is in as well as back side plexigl***. Wheel lips done around the rear tires. Have tail lights. Removed the original steering wheel but unfortunately damaged it. What a shame. Going to install a smaller one with quick release. ( ease of entry ) We are getting there. We WILL be racing.

Body work is done and the car is painted a wonderful shade of Tremclad Gloss Yellow. Hood is Black. Still have to put on the woodgrain and stainless trim.
All the bolts etc. to be gone over, a tweak on the motor, and a small handful of minor details to be done and we are there!!!

not a lot of room in Daves shop these days. The hood is staying black so all of the parts donors can sign the car. The fun is about to begin

    DEFINITION OF ACCELERATION

One top fuel dragster 500 cubic inch Hemi engine makes more horsepower than the first 4 rows of stock cars at the Daytona 500.

It takes just 15/100ths of a second for all 6,000+ horsepower of an NHRA Top Fuel dragster engine to reach the rear wheels.

Under full throttle, a dragster engine consumes 1-1/2 gallons of nitro methane per second; a fully loaded 747 consumes jet fuel at the same rate with 25% less energy being produced.

A stock Dodge Hemi V8 engine cannot produce enough power to drive the dragster's supercharger.

With 3,000 CFM of air being rammed in by the supercharger on overdrive, the fuel mixture is compressed into a near-solid form before ignition.

Cylinders run on the verge of hydraulic lock at full throttle.

At the stoichiometric (stoichiometry: methodology and technology by which quan***ies of reactants and products in chemical reactions are determined) 1.7:1 air/fuel mixture of nitro methane, the flame front temperature measures 7,050 deg F.

Nitro methane burns yellow... The spectacular white flame seen above the stacks at night is raw burning hydrogen, dissociated from atmospheric water vapor by the searing exhaust gases.

Dual magnetos supply 44 amps to each spark plug. This is the output of an arc welder in each cylinder.

Spark plug electrodes are totally consumed during a p***. After halfway, the engine is dieseling from compression, plus the glow of exhaust valves at 1,400 deg F. The engine can only be shut down by cutting the fuel flow.

If spark momentarily fails early in the run, unburned nitro builds up in the affected cylinders and then explodes with sufficient force to blow cylinder heads off the block in pieces or split the block in half.

In order to exceed 300 mph in 4. 5 seconds, dragsters must accelerate an average of over 4G's. In order to reach 200 mph (well before half-track), the launch acceleration approaches 8G's.

Dragsters reach over 300 miles per hour before you have completed reading this sentence.

Top fuel engines turn approximately 540 revolutions from light to light! Including the burnout, the engine must only survive 900 revolutions under load.

The redline is actually quite high at 9,500 rpm.

***uming all the equipment is paid off, the crew worked for free, and for once NOTHING BLOWS UP, each run costs an estimate $1,000.00 per second.

The current top fuel dragster elapsed time record is 4.428 seconds for the quarter mile (11/12/06, Tony Schumacher, at Pomona , CA ). The top speed record is 336.15 mph as measured over the last 66' of the run (05/25/05 Tony Schumacher, at Hebron , OH ).

Putting all of this into perspective:

You are driving the average $140,000 Lingenfelter 'twin-turbo' powered Corvette Z06. Over a mile up the road, a top fuel dragster is staged and ready to launch down a quarter mile strip as you p***. You have the advantage of a flying start. You run the 'Vette hard up through the gears and blast across the starting line and p*** the dragster at an honest 200 mph. The 'tree' goes green for both of you at that moment.

The dragster launches and starts after you. You keep your foot down hard, but you hear an incredibly brutal whine that sears your eardrums and within 3 seconds, the dragster catches and p***es you. He beats you to the finish line, a quarter mile away from where you just p***ed him.

Think about it, from a standing start, the dragster had spotted you 200 mph and not only caught, but nearly blasted you off the road when he p***ed you within a mere 1,320 foot long race course.

...... and that my friends, is ACCELERATION!

Well we made it to the track for some T/T. Both being new to this we are on a learning curve. Mine a little longer than Dave's. I am having trouble mastering the burn out and putting my foot completely to the floor. My times did improve with each p***. Confidence is growing.
All in all it was a great time and looking forward to the next time.
Have some minor fixes to do to the car for tech. Did not break anything at the track but unloading the car back at home we caught the shifter linkage on the trailer and ******ed it up. Hope we can get everything fixed and back in order for next weekend.

hi Phil. Car went straight. Need some good "tweekin and tunin". it was the first time down a track for both owners(Dave and Chris). Dave says he's hooked. Chris is a little more tentative but warming up to it fast. Daves best was 12.80s @ 105 and Chris is still sneaking up on it but went 14.70s @ 95. They both did very well for newbys. It won't take them long to get in to their own routine and feel comfortable behind the wheel. We're all looking forward to their fun times.
