iv got some 62 buick drums and backing plates. iv got the drums swapped onto some ford hubs already and also have the adapters made up to use the buick backing plates on my 40 ford spindles. by looking at the the backing plate/ adapter combo these backing plates aint what i need. im wondering what year of backing plates do i need? thanks for any help or advise given.

I'm not real sure what you're asking, but Tex Smith did a writeup in his Hot Rod Ch***is book on how to run those with early Ford spindles and backing plates, but he noted that the Ford shoes are 1-3/4" and the Buicks are 2-1/2", so you get a substantial increase in braking performance by running the Buick plates and brakes. Additionally, they're self-energizing, like the Lincoln and F100 brakes lots of people run. I thought most of those adapters used Ford backing plates. I picked up some Buick drums this weekend for my A and was planning on picking up some of the sweet 45-fin aluminum finned backing plates that Riley Automotive sells when I get the funds together. I know they're pricey at over $400, but man they look good and I'd be willing to get they'll stop you a lot better than those non-self energizing Ford brakes with the skinny shoes. Check it out, and they're an Alliance Vendor, so if you're a member you get 10% off and free shipping on most of the stuff they sell...

I am using 45 fin drums on all fours, although they are little hard to see in the rear since my wheels are 8" with 6" offset.................but the backing plates to use are Wilson&Welding out of Flower Mound, TX..............$450 a pair, but they are really nice and fit the 37/41 spindles like a glove..........IMHO
